Chapter 18

Clio

I arrived home at exactly 4 pm, hindi na ako nagpahatid kay Zilas at nag taxi nalang. He offered to pay for the taxi at kahit na anong ayaw ko e siya parin ang nanalo, Zilas paid the taxi for me and even gave me gifts for Calliope. It was the treats he made his chief cook, marami ito at halatang mahal ang mga ingredients. He paid me four hundred forty thousand kasi, ang nasa contract namin four hundred thousand lang but he gave me an extra money kasi raw 'nong first night that we had sex hindi ko kinuha ang 20 thousand na extra kaya ngayon niya binigay sa akin. Apparently every time he provides after care for me it's an additional 20k for him.

I won't complain though, I'll benefit from it.

Dumating ako sa harap ng apartment after a few minutes of ride, pagbaba ko sa taxi nakita ko kaagad si Calliope playing hopscotch with a bunch of kids on the sidewalk. She seems to be enjoying it.

“ Calliope! ” Tawag ko sa kaniya. Agad siyang lumingon sa direksyon kung nasan ako, a huge smile formed on her face when she saw me across the street. May dala akong paper bags of treats just for her.

“ Papa!! ” Agad siyang tumakbo papalapit sa akin, I bend my knees and scoop her up. My sweet girl is getting heavy, she's growing up.

“ Kumusta ang work papa? ” She asked habang yakap yakap ang leeg ko.

“ Tiring baby, need ata ni papa special healing kiss mo. ” I asked her, she immediately gave me a kiss on the forehead.

“ Don't be tired na papa, ” she giggled showing off her sweet smile. Napangiti narin ako at para bang nawala narin ang pagod. I carried her across the street, sinalubong agad ako ni Mika.

“ Behave ba si Calliope, Mika? ” I asked Mika, tumango lang si Mika habang nakatingin sa anak ko.

“ She really behaved kuya Clio, actually tinulungan she insist na tulungan ako sa tindahan ni mama. She earned 50 pesos dahil natuwa si mama sa kaniya, sabi niya pa na ibibigay niya daw sa'yo ang na earn niyang money.” Pag detalye ni Mika sa nangyari kay Calliope nong wala ako.

“ Papa, baba ako! ” She wiggled her way down, when she successfully did. Calliope pulled her 50 pesos and showed it to me.

“ Look papa, may fifty ako. Puwedi na tayo mag buy ng sardinas for ulam.” Sabi niya habang inosenting nakangiti. She probably thought I'd come home without earning anything so she insisted on helping.

I kissed her forehead. What did I do to deserve such a kind and loving daughter? I'm so blessed.

“ Keep mo 'yan, may money si papa para e buy natin ng ulam. ” I smiled at her.

“ Ah, Mika salamat nga pala. Here's a little something for you. ” I grabbed my wallet and pulled 600 pesos, binigay ko 'yun sa kaniya pero agad siyang umatras.

“ Kuya naman, ang laki niyan. Kahit 200 lang ayos na, total hindi naman mahirap alagaan si Calliope eh. ” Dahilan niya nong makita ang pera.

“ Sige na, alam kung may kailangan kang bilhin na school supplies. T'saka take it as my thank you gift narin kasi palagi mong inaalagaan si Calliope tuwing my duty ako.” Mika is a sweet kid, she was enough to always look out for Calliope kahit hindi ko siya sinasabihan. Her family is also kind to us, lalo na ang ina niya na palagi kaming pinapautang tuwing walang wala talaga ako.

“ Eh kuya, baka need mo ng pera. Okay lang po talaga kahit 200 lang, total mabait naman po si Calliope at hindi mahirap bantayan. ” Nakikipagtalo pa talaga siya akin. I grab her hand at nilagay don ang 600, hindi naman 'to malaking pera. Actually, kulang pa nga 'to eh.

“ Sige na, alam kong need mo niyan. ” Akmang ibabalik niya pero agad kung binawi ang kamay ko mula sa kaniya.

“ Magtatampo ako kapag hindi mo 'yan tinanggap. ” I joke habang naka ngisi.

“ Salamat kuya ah, salamat talaga. ” She said and bid goodbye to us, Mika is a nice kid. She helped out her mother with the grocery store and she's a good student. I can see a  bright future ahead of her.

“ Let's go na Calliope, ” hinawakan ko ang kamay ni Calliope at nag lakad kami papunta sa apartment.

“ Papa, what's in the bag po? ” She asked nong mapansin ang dala dala ko, I smiled at her.

“ This is a treat, dala ni papa sa'yo.” Nakangiti kong banggit, Calliope clapped her hand together in joy. She looks excited and that alone is enough to make me happy.

“ Yey!!! Pagkain!! ” Kinuha niya sa akin ang dalang paper bags at pumasok siya sa apartment, I removed my shoes and followed her right after. Nilock ko muna ang pintuan namin.

“Wow! Papa, look! ” Calliope tried to get my attention, I looked at her and she was showing off a piece of lemon cake.

“ It smells nice and it tastes sweet!!” She shouted in pure excitement, Calliope poked an icing and licked her finger.

“ Ang sarap!! ” She was full of happiness.

“ Grab a spoon nak,” I ask her to. Calliope and nod her and ran to the kitchen, narinig ko ang banggaan ng plato at kutsara. She returned to the living room with two of the smallest plate that we have and a silver spoon, Calliope place them in our coffee table.

“ Halika papa, share tayo.” Tawag niya sa akin.

I sat beside her and watch as Calliope cut the piece of cake into two, she made sure it was equal in length and weight.

“ Ito sayo papa,” Calliope placed my share in the plate she prepared for me. Bakit nga ba niya hinati ang cake kung dalawa naman ang dala ko. Beside, I'm full just by watching her.

“ Hmmm, ang yummy. ” Naka ngiti niyang banggit habang ngumunguya ng cake.

My phone vibrated all of a sudden so I fished it out to see who texted me, Zilas name popped up the moment I opened my message.

Zilas: You left the brownies in the kitchen.

With a photo attached, it was the picture of the brownies the chief pack for me. I totally forgot about it. Hindi naman ako nagmamadali pero nakalimutan ko parin dalhin ang box of brownies. Calliope would've enjoyed it.

I took a picture of Calliope enjoying her time munching on the cake and sent it to Zilas.

Zilas: She has a sweet tooth? That's cute, I'll give her more treats. 🫶🏻
