Chapter 58

Clio

After the FBI and Police officers tracked down Alastair's location we had an unexpected guest that came, it was Alther. I don't want to see him right now but he looks like he had something better to say, something that could potentially help us. We knew Alther was innocent, he's not involved with any of his father's crimes. He proved it... At least, that's what I'm told.

“ What brought you here? ” Tanong ni Zern nong makapasok si Alther sa loob, he didn't even give him a chance to sit down. It was a question right away.

“ I'm here to help, ” Alther answered. Looking at us with sadness in his eyes, he was pitying us.

“ We don't need it, ” Zaimi tried to push him away but an officer immediately went in between them.

“ Please sir, we need as much help as possible. ” Says the officers looking at Zaimi. The man rolled his eyes and went back to his seat, crossing his legs after a heavy sigh.

Alther walked towards us, he was looking at Zilas the whole time. Nasa bisig ko si Zilas, he was holding on to me tightly while in daze. The lack of sleep caught up to him, he couldn't even arrange himself. We look like we just escaped the mental hospital.

“ I'm sorry for what Alastair had done to your family Zilas, but I might provide some help.” He uttered when he got closer to us, I felt Zilas moved an inch. When I looked at him, his tired eyes were on Alther.

“ What help are you willing to provide? ” Zilas asked with his raspy and tired voice, he was still clutching on my arms like he's afraid to lose me.

“ I could lure Alastair in and so the cops will be ab— ”

It's pointless, that idea would bring more danger to my daughter. No..

“ We can't, ” Zilas shook his head. “ If we do that, he'll kill my daughter.. ”

“ He can't hurt Calliope, Zilas. He can't. ” What a bullshit! What does he mean his father can't?!

“ Don't fuck with us you piece of shit! ” My hand clutched on his collar and pulled him upwards, I know his lifted above the floor because the people in there panicked and started to calm me. Zilas on the other hand, gave no shit. He was just sitting there, watching the scenario that was happening.

“ Sir, calm down. Please. ” One of the officers interfered while forcing my hand to let go of Alther, he was strong so I let go of the man.

“ Clio, look. Alastair can't hurt Calliope because he knew that if he did, it'll be the end of him. Trust me, Alastair won't hurt her if he's not provoked. What I suggest is, we lured him in. Alastair despite being the monster that he is, he needs money and food. I can call or text him to meet me at a certain place where I could give him food, and then the police or FBI catch him. ” It was the stupidest idea I have ever heard my entire life. Does he really think Alastair is that stupid to get lured in by food and money?

“ What do you think, Zilas? ” His eyes went to Zilas. That idea is stupid, no criminal in their right mind would go and fetch some money or food hand by someone who can possibly call the police on them. I followed his eyes to Zilas, and to my surprise. My fiance nodded his head, he approved such a ridiculous idea.

“ Zilas? Why would you agree? ” Tanong ko, hindi ba niya naiisip kung gaano ka daming mali sa sinabi ni Alther? It won't work!

“ We need to at least do something, Clio. ” He said in his low and raspy voice.

“ Zilas, we can give Alastair what he wants and imprison him AFTER we'll have Calliope back. That's something we can do! Hindi puwedi ang sinasuggest ni Alther, napaka risky ng gagawin niya! What if barilin ni Alastair si Calliope nong malaman niyang may mga police?! We'll lose her! ” Why can't he see how wrong Alther's words are?!

“ Clio, this might work. Please.. ” Zilas pleaded with his eyes on me, grieving. I shut my eyes tightly as anger builds up inside of me.

“ Zilas, you already agreed to do what he wants, right? Napaka clear ng usapan niyo, bakit ngayon babawiin mo? ” Tanong ko with my voice slightly louder. Buhay ng anak ko ang pinag-uusapan natin dito, I can't have them take risky leaps that might end my daughter's life!

“ Clio, if I did what he wants the public and our business rivals will never leave me alone for the rest of my life. Even if I took back everything with the lawyer by my side, no one would believe me. They'll think it's all a facade to mask my crimes, they'll think of me as a filthy criminal who blamed everything on Alastair for the rest of my life. It will ruin me and that's what Alastair wants. ” Zilas naman eh! Bakit mo babawiin mga sinabi mo?

“ Clio, please learn to understand how important Zilas ima— ”

“ Is it more important than my daughter's own life?! ” It suddenly came out of my mouth, I didn't mean to. I thought I was only saying it in my head.

I saw how everyone quietly gasped by my statement, Alther was silent and Zilas couldn't believe what I just said. No! No! Hindi ko dapat dinadagdagan ang problema. Wala akong tulog, wala ako sa tamang pag iisip ngayon!

“ Zilas, I'm so— ” my ear ring and my cheeks sting when Zilas hands slapped me across my face. It was painful. My throat started to tighten and dry. The pain in my cheeks cannot be compared to the pain in my heart, I feel like someone dear had once again betrayed me.

“ Clio, I did everything! Why can't you understand me just this once?! I already explained how it'll ruin me! Clio, there's a better solution Alther provided! Why can't you lower your pride and accept his help?! Huh?! ” It was the first time Zilas ever shouted at me, his voice was so full of pain it wrenched my heart. “ Why would you choose to ruin me rather than just lowering your pride and accepting his suggestion?! ” His voice softened, like he was in the verge of crying.

I can't answer, I can't formulate another statement. I just stayed there, looking at the man who loved me crying because of what I did.

“ Zilas, that's enough. Both of you are tired right now, I suggest you to sleep in order to think rationally. ” It was his brother, Zern.

I don't think sleeping would fix what just happened between Zilas and I..... Sinira ko ang pag mamahal niya.. Sinira ko ang magandang relasyon namin..
