There were only around ten new Slytherin students. Draco was present as to show that he took his role serious, but it was mainly Amelia that did the job. It makes her seriously wonder why Draco even got the badge. Sure, he does what he needs to do, but that's the bare minimum.
Luckily, well, unluckily, her Black name was famous enough to make the kids listen to her. It still held a dark reputation yet she tried to show she was the opposite. Being extra attentive and kind to the first years. Perhaps to also show what to do and not to do, given that Draco did the opposite.
She got the distinct impression that he did it on purpose. If she was Pansy or some other person, he wouldn't act like this. Well, perhaps the same if Daphne was chosen. Amelia was convinced this was just to irritate her.
"Everyone, listen closely," Amelia said. "We're at the entrance of our common room."
They approach the common door of the Slytherin House. It was still as damp and chilly as she remembered in the dungeon. Some of the first years weren't pleased by where they were. They'll sing a different tune once they entered. Amelia can say they had a better common room than the Gryffindors.
"Our common room is at this part of the dungeon and if you wish to enter, a password is required," Amelia continued. "The passwords changes in time and you'll hear the new one from the Head boy or girl. The current password is 'legacy'. Remember it and don't share it with anyone else."
Amelia looked them over briefly and saw they were paying attention. In all honesty, she expected them to be more rebellious or annoying. Perhaps like the mischief duo she and Hermione were when they were young. She certainly made their parents, well, her guardians' life difficult at times. Before it all went to a bleak place.
"Legacy," Amelia said to the wall. The crowd of new student were murmuring and softly speaking with each other as a serpent moved over the wall, revealing an entrance inside.
The common room greeted them with a luxury that she only found within the Black family home. Well, that was only true at the end of summer. The repairs on the house were mostly finished by then. Still, she thinks Slytherin House held more soft beds and arm chairs than the old Black home.
Daisy emerged from her robe, stretching her arms as she flew to their room. The first years looked wide-eyed at Daisy while she relished in the attention, fluttering her colourful wings as she flew. The girls among the first year seemed jealous while the boys were confused by the fairy. Draco made his escape or went away just to make it irritating for Amelia.
It wasn't strange to see them staring at Daisy as technically they were only given the choice between an owl, a cat, or a toad. Of course, a few exceptions were made but it was a first for a fairy.
"Attention," Amelia said with a soft chuckle in her voice. "Daisy can be admired another time. I wish to say a few other important things. First, each House has a House Ghost. For us Slytherins it is the Bloody Baron. You may see a ghostly figure with blood and chains floating around. Don't be frightened of him. Also, I'd like to remind everyone that any of you represent Slytherin, do not make us look bad. Make friends with the other houses and with those in Slytherin. Any questions you may have, feel free to ask us prefects."
Amelia glanced to see whether Draco was nearby, but he was not anywhere near that she could see.
"Well, me, in any case, or the head boy or girl. And, on a personal note, we Slytherins are not evil," Amelia noted in a softer tone. "Merlin has shown us what it means to be a true Slytherin. Think on that as you settle in. Well, enough from me, you can choose where you wish to sleep. Your belonging will appear at the end of your bed. Girls have their dormitories on the left while the boys are on the right. Welcome to Slytherin."
