Night had arrived. Irene was tying together the fabrics she found in the room, to use it as a rope.
Then, there was a knock on the door.
“Milady? It’s Libby. I brought your dinner.”
“Wait a minute.”
Irene hurriedly hid the fabrics inside the wardrobe.
“Come in.”
Libby stepped inside.
“Just put the tray there,” Irene ordered.
Libby placed the tray on the table as instructed.
“Is there anything else you need, milady?” Libby asked.
“That will be all, Libby. You may leave.”
Hearing that, Libby nodded and turned to leave.
“Libby…”
Libby turned back toward Irene.
“Yes, milady?”
Irene remembered that until the very end of the story, Libby was the only one who truly cared for the villainess. When the villainess met her end, Libby was also executed for being her accomplice.
Because of that, Irene wanted to bid her farewell.
“Thank you for everything,” Irene said with a small smile.
Libby was stunned to hear this. Then, she returned a gentle smile.
“Milady.”
She bowed her head respectfully once more before leaving, this time with a brighter expression.
Watching Libby go, Irene let out a sigh of relief.
Now, she just had to wait until midnight to leave this place.
There was barely any guard in this area—no one cared enough about the Duke’s daughter’s safety.
Irene continued tying more fabric tightly together.
Looking outside, the moon was the only light shining in the night.
She then threw the rope of clothes and fabric out the window. It reached all the way to the ground. She secured the end tightly to something sturdy inside the room.
Once she was sure it could hold her weight, Irene carefully climbed out of the window, after bringing the food Libby had given her in a bag.
She forced herself to stay brave, even though she was terrified by the height.
Her heart pounded so loudly she could hear it.
Hanging from the window, Irene slowly began climbing down, her feet pressed against the wall.
Suddenly, she nearly lost her footing.
“Ah…”
Irene tightened her grip on the fabric.
She almost fell and screamed, but she forced herself to calm down.
Seeing that the fabric was still intact and hadn’t torn, she continued descending until she finally reached the ground.
The moment her feet touched the ground, she let go of the rope and sighed in relief.
Irene quickly looked around to make sure the coast was clear.
Then she ran toward the brick wall.
It wasn’t too high—she could manage it.
Climbing wasn’t easy, but she forced herself, gripping firmly as she pulled herself up.
Once she made it over the wall, Irene used her cloak to cover her face.
With adrenaline rushing through her veins, she ran into the woods, knowing it would lead her to the town.
When she finally reached the town, Irene approached a nearby house to steal some clothes.
Spotting garments hanging outside, she quickly grabbed them.
She found a secluded place and changed her clothes.
After discarding her original outfit, Irene searched for a place to hide.
She remembered that, in this part of the story, vegetable traders would pass through this area on their way out of the region.
Irene decided to hide there and follow wherever the traders would go—as long as it took her far away from this place.
Seeing a vegetable cart, Irene was certain this was the same one the Crown Prince once used to hide when escaping from his enemies. This cart would eventually return to its home region.
Irene felt grateful that she remembered every detail from the book.
For the first time, she didn’t regret reading it.
Now, all she could do…was wait for sunrise.
By the time Libby entered her chamber and realized she was gone, they would surely begin searching for her.
But by then—
Irene would already be in another region.
