Irene fell asleep in the cart. She woke from her sleep when she felt the cart moving.

She poked a small hole in the cabbage basket to peek outside.

Seeing the road, Irene realized that she was already outside the region.

“Finally…”

Relief washed over her. Now that she had escaped that place, she needed to find a way to return home.

Is there a way for her to return back to her own world?

Thinking about it made Irene miss her father from her world.

But she remembered that she had fell down into the train lanes. Does that means she had died there?

Was that why she had been reborn into this novel?

Many thoughts filled her mind, but she could only wonder—there were no answers.

Her eyes couldn't help but shed tears.

Hours later, Irene saw that they had arrived in another town. The traders stopped at the marketplace and began negotiating with others.

Taking this chance, Irene quietly slipped out.

Seeing that no one was paying attention, she climbed down from the cart.

As she stepped onto the ground, Irene looked around.

The town was lively, filled with chatter and children running about.

She was amazed. In the world she came from, she had never experienced such an environment.

“Freshly baked bread here!”
“Fresh fish! Good prices!”
“I can offer you five pounds for this meat!”

The marketplace was bustling.

“Hahaha! You can’t catch me!”
“Wait for me, Fred!”

Children ran past her, laughing as they chased one another.

For a moment, Irene forgot all her troubles.

Even the air felt different—the breeze was fresh and calming.

She smiled, amazed by her surroundings. It all felt surreal.

“Hello, milady.”

Irene stopped as a little girl stood in front of her.

“Would you like some flowers? It only costs a cent.”

Irene looked at the girl with a hint of sadness.

“I’m sorry… I don’t have any coins.”

“Oh…” The little girl lowered her head.

Seeing her like that, Irene felt pity.

“Here, take this bread.”

Irene handed her the bread she had.

The little girl looked at the bread, then back at Irene, and smiled brightly.

“Thank you, kind fairy.”

Irene chuckled softly.

The girl waved goodbye before running off.

Watching her leave, Irene realized something.

If she wanted to survive here, she needed to find a way to live first.

That meant finding a place to stay—and work.

Irene began looking around for any place that might be hiring.

This wasn’t the modern world. She couldn’t just apply online—she had to ask around.

She needed somewhere hidden… somewhere she wouldn’t be easily noticed.

Eventually, Irene arrived at a tavern.

Pushing open the door, she saw many people inside eating and drinking.

She approached the bartender.

“Hello?”

“Ah… yes, miss? What can I do for you?” an older woman asked.

“May I speak to the owner?” Irene asked.

“You’re looking at her,” the bartender replied.

“Oh… I was wondering… if I could work here.”

“You?” The bartender looked her up and down. “You don’t look like someone who can work.”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re too clean. Like a noble.”

Irene was stunned. The woman had sharp eyes.

Still, she couldn’t back down.

“How would you know? I can cook and clean dishes. You can’t judge me just by my appearance.”

The bartender clicked her tongue.

“Tsk… Look, young lady, I don’t need any workers. I’m doing just fine on my own.”

“I won’t ask for high wages. I just need a place to stay and food to eat. I’ve been away from home for so long, trying to find work.”

The bartender studied her for a moment.

Seeing her determination, she softened slightly.

“Fine. But if you make a mess in my tavern, I’ll throw you out.”

“Thank you—thank you so much, miss… I mean, madam… ma’am…”

“Call me Old Judy. That’s what everyone calls me.”

“Yes, thank you, Old Judy. I’m… Irene.”

Irene hesitated at first, but in the end, she introduced herself using her real name.

“Alright, Irene. Come—I’ll show you your room.”

Irene followed Old Judy, who led her to a small room.

“You’ll be staying here. There’s a place to bathe over there. And here’s some food. Get some rest today. Tomorrow at eight in the morning, I want you at the tavern. If you’re not there, you’re fired.”

“No, I promise I’ll be there at eight,” Irene said quickly.

“Alright. See you tomorrow, Irene.”

Old Judy left.

Irene sat down, letting out a breath of relief.

Finally… she could rest without fear.

From now on, she would have to adjust to this new life.

At least… for now.
