Hearing that, Lucas looks at him, bewildered.
"Are you hearing yourself right now, Michael? The crown princess! Someone who hated my existence, loathed and despises me! And would do anything to end me. And you told me that they are the same person." Lucas shake his head in disbelief.
Even Michael knew, that hearing this doesn't make sense.
He see the crown princess in person. He knew how her personality was. And her hatred towards Lucas was plain for everyone to see. It's no secret of that the crown princess is an overly jealous woman.
But this current crown princess is nothing like that. Ever since she returned back, she had transformed to be a completely and utterly different person. She's nothing like the previous woman that he had seen. Nor she held any hostility and animosity towards Lucas.
Hadn't he seen the amulet she wear and her interaction towards the villagers back then, he himself wouldn't believe it.
But now, the harder part is to convinced Lucas.
"Lucas...I know this is hard to believe. But I saw her. She was..."
Lucas cuts in.
"You saw wrong! Irene is not the crown princess! She's gentle and kind...and she's the love of my life. That woman...the crown princess that try to poison me...is nothing like her!" Lucas lashes out, with a hint of exasperated tone.
"Are you even sure she did it?! I've seen her myself, Lucas! I see her changes. She's nothing like the crown princess before. I know that. Everyone knows that! That time when the disease break! She's the one who found cure for it. How much she tries and struggle to save others. And she possessed the medical knowledge that she never had before. She even took care of you, when you're life in jeopardy!"
"Lies! Lies! The crown princess had been able to trick others before. She might have trick you!" Lucas retort back. His mind refused to believe anything Michael said. But somehow his heart is already beating so hard. Seemingly becoming aware of the truth.
And that's what terrified him.
Michael took a firm grip on both of his shoulders.
"Do you think I'm so gullible not able to differentiate between fake and real ability? I saw her, Lucas. We went to the town you stayed. We went there and I saw her interaction with the townfolk. All of them recognised her...not as the crown princess, nor as the duke daughter's Dacia...but as Irene."
"What?" This time, Lucas was shocked. His eyes widen.
"Yes, they called her Irene. And what convince me the most is that...the amulet she wear in her wrist. It was yours."
Something inside Lucas shattered after hearing that.
His whole body stood frozen.
His heart thumping loudly. That he no longer heard any word Michael had said.
Every moment that had stirred his heart when he sees her, came rushing in his mind.
Her hair...her voice...her eyes....
She...she....was Irene???
But how???
Recalling the day he first meet the crown princess.
The arrogant and cruel person she was.
And then the day he met Irene.
The light and warm-hearted person.
How can the two of them be the same person??
Refusing to believe it. Lucas pull away from Michael as he left the room.
