“Your Holiness, there might be some rare herbs around there.”

A young, charming man with blue eyes stepped out of the carriage. It was the High Priest, Lucas Saltor.

An older man also stepped out and approached Lucas.

Both of them looked toward the hill.

“We should hurry and find the plants before nightfall,” the physician said.

“Alright then. The rest of you stay here. Five of you, follow me,” Lucas commanded.

Together with the physician and several soldiers, they began hiking up the hill, each carrying a basket on their backs.

They were searching for rare herbs and plants to treat illnesses such as diarrhea and malaria.

Usually, rare plants could be found at the top of the hill.

When they finally reached the top, they saw many valuable plants suitable for making medicine.

Lucas and the old physician smiled in satisfaction.

“Be careful when pulling out the roots. We need them in good condition,” the physician warned.

All the soldiers obeyed, carefully extracting the plants.

Unbeknownst to them, an assassin was hiding among the trees.

Just as they were about to descend the hill, an arrow shot through the air.

A black-masked man suddenly appeared and sliced the arrow in half.

“Protect the High Priest!”

Realizing they were under attack, the soldiers quickly formed a defensive line around Lucas and the physician.

Ten assassins emerged from the forest.

“Charge!”

A fierce battle broke out.

All of the assassins targeted Lucas.

While the soldiers and the masked man fought them off, one assassin found an opening and launched a sneak attack.

“Watch out!”

Lucas pulled the physician aside, narrowly avoiding the strike. He then kicked the assassin away. The masked man immediately slit the assassin’s throat.

Three soldiers were killed, and two were injured.

Only three remained to protect Lucas and the physician.

Seeing their disadvantage, Lucas made a decision.

“The assassins are after me. The three of you—take the plants and return safely. Remember our purpose today. Go!” he commanded.

Without hesitation, Lucas ran in the opposite direction, with the masked man following him.

As expected, the assassins chased after them.

The physician and the injured soldiers had no choice but to obey.

Lucas and the masked man continued to fight the assassins.

Three out of six were killed by the masked man.

Only three remained.

Suddenly, the assassins threw smoke bombs, filling the area with thick smoke.

Both Lucas and the masked man couldn't see anything through it.

Out of the smoke, a sword struck Lucas’s arm, injuring him.

“Ah!!”

Another assassin emerged from the thick smoke, kicked him from behind.

With the force of the blow, Lucas fell off the cliff and into the river below.

“Your Holiness!”

The masked man jumped after him, without hesitation.

The remaining assassins looked down, feeling satisfied.

Convinced, that their target had met his end.

Meanwhile, Irene had finally found the plant she had been searching for.

Overjoyed, she hurried down the hill.

Feeling thirsty, she reached for her water bottle to drink only to realize it was empty.

“What? Already had run out...”

As she continued descending, she heard the sound of flowing water.

Excited, Irene rushed toward it.

When she reached the river, she quickly took out one of her tools, a water filter she had designed.

After purifying the water, she took a large sip.

Just as she was quenching her thirst, something caught her eye.

“Ahhh!”

Two unconscious men were floating nearby in the river.

Irene rushed forward and pulled them ashore, one by one.

She first checked the man dressed in black—listening for his heartbeat and feeling for his pulse.

There was no clear response.

Left with no choice, Irene removed his mask.

Beneath it was a handsome young man.

Startled for a moment, Irene quickly regained focus and began CPR.

“One, two, three, four…”

She pressed down on his chest repeatedly until he suddenly coughed out water.

His eyes fluttered open briefly before he lost consciousness again.

Relieved that his vitals were stable, Irene turned to the second man, dressed in white, with an injured arm.

She repeated the same process.

But this time, he didn’t respond.

Panic began to rise.

“Come on… come on… one, two, three…”

Tilting his head back, Irene performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

She pinched his nose and breathed into his lungs, refusing to give up.

After a minute, he finally coughed out water.

Checking both of their vitals, Irene confirmed that they were alive.

She let out a deep sigh of relief as she collapsed onto the ground.

She had just saved two strangers…from the river.

Then, realizing something, Irene quickly stood up and examined them more closely.

Looking at their clothing, a thought struck her.

“Ah—!”

She covered her mouth in shock.

“No… it can’t be…”

The men she had just saved—

Were the male protagonist… and the second male lead!!!
