As the ceremony comes to an end, Irene quietly withdrew.
She walked away from the crowd, Libby keeping pace behind.
"Your Highness!"
The voice came from behind.
She did not stop.
"Your Highness, please-!"
Irene turn to see it is Lucas.
Then she continued walking.
Libby hesitated, then follow her. Though she keep glancing back nervously.
"Your Highness!" His footsteps quickened.
"Wait!"
Still, Irene did not turn.
Then-
"Your Highness!"
He caught her wrist.
She stopped.
Slowly, she turned.
Her eyes were sharp.
"Let go."
Lucas immediately released her, guilt flashing across his face.
"Forgive me, Your Highness..." he said quickly. "I only wish to speak with you."
Irene glanced at Libby.
Libby understood without words and stepped away, retreating.
Irene did not look at Lucas.
"What do you want?"
Her voice was cold.
Lucas swallowed.
"Your High-" He hesitate first.
"Irene..." He finally said it.
Irene couldn't help but react to that.
"Why do you refuse to see me?" His voice trembled slightly.
He had gone to the palace hoping to visit her. But his entrance had been denied by her. His heart couldn't help but worried.
"I have wanted to meet you. To see if you're alright and....safe. Yet, you refuse every time. And you...you returned this to me."
He lifted his hand.
The red amulet lay against his palm.
The very one she had instructed Libby to return.
Irene's expression did not change.
"Should that not be clear enough?"
Lucas flinched.
"You no longer wish to see me?"
"Yes."
The single word struck harder than accusation.
"Why?" he asked, almost helplessly.
"You know why."
Lucas exhaled shakily.
"Do you hate me?"
Before she could answer, he gave a bitter smile.
"Of course you do. After everything you suffered because of my foolishness."
Irene remained silent.
Lucas stepped closer, desperation overtaking restraint.
"I-I know. I was...foolish and...and arrogant. What have I done to you, was beyond redeemable. I just....Irene, I-"
