Irene saw that Lucas is sitting on the bed with his blank expression.

His once well able-bodied now look so thin.

"Your holiness, Her Highness has arrived." The young man inform him.

But Lucas remained silent. Seemingly didn't bother to care nor greet the crown princess.

None dare to correct nor rebuked him, even though such behaviour is considered offending the royal.

Irene notice the untouched food on the table beside him. It seems Lucas is planning to starve himself.

"Has he eaten anything at all?" Irene questions in a low voice.

"No, you highness." The young man replied.

Irene sighed.

This is going to be difficult.

Still, she had to try to convince him.

"I come to delivered your medicine, your holiness." She approaches Lucas.

Though he remains silent, his eyes twitched a bit upon hearing her voice.

"But we can't give you any medicine, with an empty stomach. I'll have the kitchen to prepared another set warm food." Irene sat on a chair beside the bed and take away the cold porridge.

She then signal the young man holding the tray to approach.

The young man comply.

Irene put the porridge down on the tray, beside the decoction medicine.

Unexpectedly, a hand took away the bowl of that still hot brewed medicine.

It happened so fast, that Irene didn't have time prevent it.

She turned to see Lucas gulped down that bitter medicine with ease.

He put back the empty bowl to the tray and silently turn away.

Everyone was shocked.

He's willingly taken the medicine, much to Irene confusion.

Lucas stared at her with soulless eyes. She froze when met his eyes. The spark she once saw in his eyes is no longer there but only depths of his broken self.

Instantly, Irene felt the lump in her heart.

"They all singing praises, about your contribution to the people of Loistava. Giving you credit to the cure for these pandemic. Even to the point of saving me...." Lucas voice cracked slightly as he spoke.

"I don't know how you did it....but I don't care what you're plan is by doing so. I don't feel the gratitude at all. You may fool others with this saint act of yours, but you can't fool me." He icily stated.

They mere inches apart, the air thick with unspoken words. His piercing blue eyes bore into hers, searching, demanding. While her, still in confusion. She felt herself losing composure, her breath catching in her throat. For a moment, it seemed as though time had stopped, the world shrinking to just the two of them locked in an unyielding gaze.

His gaze, initially locked in her eyes and hair, slowly drifted downwards, tracing the curve of her nose and the delicate outline of her lips.

The more he stare the more pain he felt to see the resemblance of the crown princess feature to the woman he loved. Even her voice are so alike.

He must have gone crazy to think that way.

Such a kind-hearted and untainted person shouldn't be compared to this crude and vile crown princess.
