Jennie suddenly sat up straight on the piano stool, her hands still resting on the keys. Her eyes snapped open as a realisation filled her, her fingers curling over the black and white keys.
"A promise."
Everyone's attention immediately turned to her, their startled faces at her sudden outburst. She herself seemed caught in the intensity of the moment, her breathing erratic and her cheeks flushed.
Lisa was the first to recover from the surprise, her eyes watching Jennie closely. "Unnie, what is it?"
Spinning her stool around, she looked at Lisa in the eyes before taking a small breath, "The answer to the riddle is promise."
An unexpected silence engulfed the room, with Taehyung placing a hand on his forehead leaning back.
Jimin stood up from his seat pacing back and forth, his hands in his pockets as Jungkook just kept gazing out of the window where he was standing.
Lisa leaned back on the couch, her hand gripping the armrest tightly. Meanwhile, Rosé was standing beside Jennie, her arms crossed.
She was the first to speak, "Promise... That makes perfect sense," she murmured.
Taehyung stirred, his hand dropping from his forehead as he finally spoke up. "But what kind of promise are we talking about here?" he asked, his eyes darting between Jennie and Lisa.
"Yeah," Jimin chimed in, stopping his pacing to look at Jennie. "The riddle said something about keeping a promise. Whose promise is this?"
Jennie turned around slowly gazing at an empty spot thinking.
"Why not just go there to find all the answers?"
...
Entering the old rusty house in the dark, Rosé fanned the dust away her face, coughing.
"Did nobody clean this place in ages?" Jimin voiced out, his black boots making a sound on the wooden floor.
Jennie, Taehyung trailed behind the two, their eyes adjusting to the darkness. Lisa and Jungkook were outside guarding the whole place in case of an invasion.
"This place was abandoned after Miss Kyung passed away eight years ago," Rosé coughed again looking around at the old furniture that was broken from some places, and cobwebs.
Jennie slowly stepped forward, her eyes damp and her heart swelling slowly and painfully with the old memories as her eyes suddenly fell on the old and rusty picture of an old lady framed on the wall.
"Maa! Save me from her," he shouted running to grandma and running behind her as I followed him with a frying pan.
"He just ate all the breakfast by himself, grandma, beat his ass," I said showing her the frying pan as she just chuckled before stretching her weak arms and I ran in her embrace.
Miss Kyung, the grandma of Kai was a generous lady with fine lines and a beautiful smile on her face. Her scent was calming to me as I breathed in her embrace.
"Look, Maa! What's she saying," he hid behind her more sticking his tongue out to me.
I raised my eyebrow at him before swaying my drying pan at him hearing him shout as he hid behind grandma completely.
The memories rushed in, flooding her mind, pulling at her emotions. She could hear the voices so clearly, almost as if they were in the room with her.
It all seemed so real, so tangible. It was like she was there again: in that old house, in her past.
