"Run.." I whimpered through gritted teeth.
The world seemed to slow down as agony shot through my foot. I stumbled, my hand slipping from Yoongi's grasp.
As I fell to the ground, the searing pain, I watched through blurred, teary eyes as Yoongi's silhouette faded into the swirling smoke.
That was the last time I saw my brother, Yoongi. The smoke claimed him, and despite my desperate cries and futile efforts to crawl back, he was gone.... Or at least for me?
Then one day, I met BTS, our biggest rivals. Had all of them introduce themselves.
"Shadow," I heard one of them say.
That was my brother's word code. The only person in my life, who loved it. To the extent, he named our dog shadow too.
But I let it go, thinking it was a coincidence and couldn't be what I was thinking about. I tentatively reached up, clutching the silver pendant of the necklace wrapped around my neck, the necklace he gifted me on my 18th birthday.
I stumbled backwards, a sharp gasp escaping my lips. Kai's head snapped towards me, his eyes widening in surprise. "Jennie...?" he murmured.
I took several steps backward, my hand gripping the banister tightly. Without a word, I turned and bolted up the stairs, my heart racing and my breath hitching in my chest. I could hear his footsteps following me, but I didn't dare look back.
I burst through the roof door, the cool night air hitting my face. I quickly scanned the area and spotted a gun lying near some weights.
I lunged for it, wrapping my fingers around the cold metal just as Kai emerged from the stairwell. "Jennie!" he shouted, his face pale.
I pointed the gun at him, my hands shaking but my voice steady. "Stop right there, Kai, or I swear I'll pull the trigger."
His eyes flickered to the gun, then back to my face. He raised his hands slowly, a smirk playing on his lips. "You wouldn't dare, darlin'."
"You're so pathetic," I spat, tears blurring my vision. "You killed my parents, and now you're trying to kill me too?."
His smile faltered for a moment, his eyes flashing with anger. "They were just in the way."
Just then, the roof door burst open and the girl from before, who had been kissing Kai, came rushing out. "Kai.." she asked breathlessly, her eyes widening as she saw me pointing a gun at him.
The girl rushed over to Kai's side, staring at me with a mixture of fear and annoyance. "Put the gun down, you bitch," she snapped.
He lunged forward, trying to wrestle the gun from my hands. It went off with a deafening bang, the bullet flying into the night sky. In the scuffle, my phone fell out of my dress pocket and onto the rooftop.
I bent down to grab my phone, quickly swiping to unlock it and dialing Taehyung's number. But Kai was quicker.
He snatched the phone out of my hand and threw it against the ground. "No one's coming to save you, sweetheart," he sneered.
I took a step back, my heel hitting the edge of the roof. I looked over my shoulder and felt my heart leap into my throat.
The ground was so far below, the city lights blurring into a river of neon. Kai advanced on me, a cruel smile on his face.
My eyes locked onto the gun lying on the ground between us. With a simultaneous burst of speed, we both lunged for it. My fingers brushed against the cool metal just as Kai's hand closed around it. He yanked it out of reach and pointed it at me, his face contorted with rage.
