I didn't know exactly how long we had been in the cell for. It must have been a day at least. Charlie and I hadn't talked since the last conversation we had. None of us could sleep either. I guess over the past hour or so, more questions ticked in my head and so did some thoughts seem to have bothered Charlie. I looked at her as she sat with her eyes closed. She was awake though. I knew because she was slowly swaying her left leg from side to side.

"Hey." I crossed my legs and sat up straight from leaning against the wall. "Uh, how's your back?"

"Hmm?" She opened her eyes, sitting up straight to fully divert her attention towards me from her half-asleep mind. "Oh, it's better." She finally answered, realizing what I had asked.

"You were hurt worse." She raised a brow, half smiling. "You okay?"

"Oh." I looked down. "Yeah."

I thought of the blood I saw on my hands during the fall. I thought of the wounds I got, remembering the pain.

"Yeah. It's gotten better. I almost got rid of the crutches actually."

"That's good," she said. "Thanks for helping me out in there."

"I think I made it worse. Hurt your back more, didn't I?"

"It didn't hurt too much." She smiled, looking down. "But still, thanks."

"I was just returning the favour." I looked at her, tracing her long braid down to the ground as it sat next to her hip on her right.

"Yeah," she replied, awkwardly, not sure what else she should say.

I hesitated for a moment but my curiosity increased by every passing second.

"How'd you know?"

"Know what?"

"How'd you know Seliel was gonna do that?"

"Oh." She looked at me, soft with her voice.

"Are you part of some mafia?"

"No." She half-rolled her eyes at the word. "I just overheard her on a call, talking to someone about killing you."

"Really? That's all it took to convince you to save me?"

"Yeah?" She cocked a brow.

"Really?" I also did the same.

"It's really not that hard to believe. It was just a human instinct to save someone in need." She shrugged, closing her eyes. "I had to call the cops after hearing about murder."

"How'd you know me?" I asked, my idiosyncrasy changing from topic to topic. "Are you a stalker? You know that's illegal."

"Yeah, I know. I don't have time to stalk a random guy, okay?"

Fair enough.

"We volunteered at the same place once." She lowered her brows, completely disappointed in me.

"Oh." I straightened my back, getting more and more indulged because I was not expecting to hear that. "We did?"

"Yeah. At the kids summer camp?" she spoke with an austere voice.

"Aren't you too young for volunteering, kid?"

I raised my brows, generally interested in knowing how old she was. But, her guise changed faster than I could think of my next line. I dropped my brows, concerned with that look.
