We were back in the lobby. We had just walked up the staircase which we exited using the door next to Seliel's room. Just across the hall were the elevators we were supposed to take. I looked around, noticing how much darker it was than normal. The central lights of the lobby were off. Only a few pot lights above the elevators on both sides glowed.
We were almost done executing our plan. The last part of it that was left was to take the lift up and get out through the building doors. Elijah was supposed to be waiting for us. I was happy that we would all finally be free; including Elijah. He had suffered a lot, just like us but ten times more.
I walked forward, looking at the back of Cole's toque. I flustered, looking at his hair.
He held me in his arms. He held me close to him. I got butterflies in my stomach thinking of his body. His hands, his fingers. His skin...
He was such a gentleman. He understood my pain without knowing what else Morro did. If he knew that as well, I failed to imagine how much hotter he would be looking after me as if I was some princess or queen. I was impressed by his little actions, like how he chose to walk in front of me. His gaze was gentle too, always looking down reverently. He didn't try anything suspicious just because I was half out of my clothes, even though he had many opportunities to touch me, many excuses to be naughty. He was respectful. He was a keeper.
I wanted him to be mine.
Mine forever.
I fumbled my fingers by my side before raising them to grab the clover locket hanging on my back. I felt it sway between my shoulder blades before I pulled it forward, fidgeting the necklace around my neck. My face was heating up, the more I thought of him.
I silently walked behind him, constantly checking him out from his heavy-duty boots to the tip of the soft toque on his head. I traced his legs up to his back, counting all the blue belts and straps hanging down his thighs and spine.
He was trudging so quietly. The only noise was from the clicking of the belts strapped horizontally across on his back. I didn't know if I had gotten used to the loud music or if the hallways were very silent, but I discerned how silent he was. I even noticed a tint of gloom in his eyes earlier when he looked at me. The beautiful, lustrous cinnamon in his eyes was faded. The bottom lid of his eyes was puffy, swollen in a crimson colour. His lashes were glued together, looking beautiful regardless of the tears he tried to hide.
I knew I had only spent about half a month with him but I knew instantly that wasn't the Cole I knew. Something was off. Something was wrong.
It must have been what Seliel said to him.
It was definitely what Seliel said to him.
I could only picture what would have been going through his head when she said that. I bet my presence didn't make it easier for him to face it all. Unlike all the other times, me being next to him must have terrified him. He must have felt embarrassed. Awkward. Scared of being judged.
It truly was a twisted plot. I never knew that part of his past even though I practically stalked him for the past year.
At first I didn't believe her, but then I did. And then I chose to trust Cole, at the same time fearing that he'd never come back for me. But there we were, walking down the lonely hall together. And because of that, even if he did have blood on his hands, I didn't care at all.
