I watched myself hold his hand, my fingers tightly squeezing his skin. Even though we were getting out, I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to separate our paths once we left. I watched the back of his head, watching his wavy black hair sway side to side as we ran up the stairs. Everything was fine as long as I was holding his hand, but at the same time, everything began feeling so divergent. Someone was running after me. It was a guard. I saw myself look over my shoulder, my speed slowing as I involuntarily gasped at the human behind me. My speed was already slow. I wasn't able to run. I couldn't, no matter how hard I tried to push my muscles. I didn't get why.
Suddenly, he raised his hand, something flashy reflecting the lights above me on it. I looked down at the item, watching it force down on me, impaling my skin. I let his hand go, falling on the ground as the knife jabbed my spine. I looked up, seeing his bare feet come back down the steps but it was too late. The guard turned me around, plunging the weapon into my stomach.
He did it again.
And again.
And again...
It didn't hurt much but it was scary. I coughed, feeling blood usher to my throat and spit out of my lips. My tongue could taste the sweet taste of my own blood. Was that what blood really tasted like? It wasn't how I remembered it was flavored. It was so sugary... Like candy...
I looked down, seeing blood seep over my legs. It felt wet. Very wet.
I gasped, waking up with a jolt. My eyes watered from the pain of the piercing light. It always hurt even though it was the dimmest and most yellow coloured light I had ever seen.
I sighed, looking at Cole sleeping ahead of me.
What a dream.
Or a nightmare to be factual.
I looked ahead of me, feeling wet for real. I put my right hand on my stomach, failing to differentiate my dream from reality. I lowered my brows, looking down at my abdomen.
There was blood.
I gasped, instantly putting my hand over my mouth and nose. I pushed my crossed feet away from me as I stared at the red liquid leaching away from my pelvis, leaving a thick trail of blood on the cold concrete.
My eyes watered in worry, my eyes blinking in confusion as to why my groin had blood all over it. If it was going to happen that month, why did it have to happen right then? I bit my left thumb, timorously alternating my gaze with Cole, then my regs, then back at Cole. I had gotten my periods.
I didn't want to wake Cole up. The lights were on too. I wished it was dark so he couldn't see. I looked at Cole, watching him turn his head from his left shoulder to his right.
Please don't wake up.
Please don't wake up.
I clenched my hand in my shirt over my knees, pushing my legs out in front of me. I pulled my long shirt over my pelvis, clenching its end tightly as I tried my best to hide the bleeding.
I kept my eye on Cole, watching his every move very closely. He yawned, rubbing his right hand on his nose. At least his eyes were still shut, but he didn't look like he was in deep sleep anymore.
