"I was gonna say let's go to Wonderland. But you probably shouldn't go on any crazy rides."
"Yeah."
I was in my room. I was alone at home, on a call with my friend, Carman.
"How about the beach? It's peaceful and we'll have fun."
I looked in the mirror ahead of me, raising my left arm up. I looked at my peach skin, turning my body to look at the huge scabbing cut over my shoulder blade.
It was a rigid mark, going from beneath my bra, over my spine and into the right side of my grey trousers, stretching over my hip. It ended just above the back of my thigh.
I sighed, lowering my arm.
"Not sure I can go into the water just yet, but I'm down anyway," I replied.
"Oh right. My bad. Let's just hang out at the mall then. I was thinking of it tomorrow. Is that cool?"
"Yeah, I'm fine with it," I said.
"Kay, lemme ask Camila." Carman's voice got close.
I could tell she moved towards her phone.
I looked at her picture on my phone, reading her name on the call. I moved my right fingers past my phone, picking up the Band-Aid from my white table.
I looked at myself, staring into my own eyes. I looked at the soft scar over the bridge of my nose. It was barely noticeable. The helix of my left ear had healed too.
I opened the paper wrapper of the bandage in my hands, dropping the cover on my table. I exhaled, raising my left arm once more. I looked at the bottom of my cotton, white bra, raising it slightly to see the old bandage flay off of my rib. I peeled off the hanging piece, replacing it with the fresh one.
"Oh wait, Camila just messaged me. She can't do tomorrow cuz she's gotta go with her family to someone's house." Carman's voice popped back.
I let my bra go.
"Oh."
I tilted my head, letting my long braid slip to my right side as I stretched my left arm across my chest. I looked at my boobs squeezed together, feigning sexy for a quick moment before I let go. I winced, feeling the crispy scab crack over my back.
"You know what, how about after tomorrow?"
I closed my eyes, turning my head low. I placed my craggy yet diaphanous hands on my waist, pressing my soft fingers into my skin. I opened my eyes, looking at my navel. I stood straight, my weight balanced on both my legs. I watched the drawstrings pulled to their fullest, seeing them almost reach my knees.
"Carman, I really don't mind when. Just make sure Camila can join in."
"Okay, okay. She said she can definitely make it after tomorrow."
I tracked my left leg down to my ankle, dropping my left hand from my hip to lift my trouser up. I inspected my skin, content with the fading blemish. The bone from within still hurt. I let my pants go, turning my body to my right to pick up the cover of the bandage I had opened. I crumpled the wrapper in my hand and closed the bandage box, pushing it back.
I was already sleepy. I never slept early on a summer night nor had I done anything tiring that day. I was probably still exhausted from almost a month ago. My body was still healing from the fall. It had been about fifteen days but some cuts on my body were too large to have healed to the point where the pain was diminished. Especially the one marking my entire back. I had just gotten used to sitting down on my hips; the tender incision made it difficult to put my butt down on any surface but my bed.
