001 wasn't the one who escorted me all the way there. Of course that only meant one thing, like last time. I didn't really need to use the washroom anyway so I began climbing into the vent. I pushed my foot against the vent floor, pushing myself deeper inside. I paused for a moment, hearing Seliel's faint voice from a distance.
Just a bit further.
I squirmed, forward, my sweaty skin helping me slip through the metal.
Finally, I stopped in front of the grille, seeing Seliel's blonde hair from above and 001's black toque as he stood in front of her. I rested my right ear against the floor of the vent, listening to the conversation.
"Yes. Send the two new guards." I listened to Seliel command someone.
A muffled voice responded to her orders too. It sounded like she was talking on the phone, except I couldn't really see because she was a bit out of my view. I decided to move back a bit to see the scene, forcing my cramped wrist out from beneath my chest so I could push myself back.
I accidentally hit my hand on the grille of the vent which opened right into Seliel's room, falling with an obnoxiously loud thud.
Thwank!
I gasped, immediately putting my hand over my mouth. I quickly squirmed backwards to get out of sight, bruising my wrist in the process. A sweat drop slid down my forehead as I gawked my eyeballs out, hearing everyone in the room silence to the falling piece of metal. What was worse was that two of the three screws that I had put on from inside remained in the vent.
Oops.
"I thought you said that thing was good as new." Suddenly, Seliel spoke.
I slid a bit further to see her.
She lowered her phone, turning around to look at 001. I watched them, finally getting a good view of everyone.
The guard stared back at her. It probably was sturdy before I had opened it last time, weakening it. I felt bad. He was going to get in trouble because of me. But thankfully they hadn't noticed the number of screws that had fallen. I was also lucky that it wasn't the first time that grill had fallen off. Or it seemed that way by what Seliel had just said.
"Well, what are you staring at, get to work!" Seliel glared at him, pressing her thumb on the screen of her phone to end the call.
The guard nodded and picked up the grille I pushed off.
"Come on, Morro. We need to pay our guests a visit."
"Yeah." Morro walked out, leading the way.
Seliel's heels clicked against the floor before the sound abruptly stopped. She looked at 001, crossing her arms. I looked at her white and clear beaded bracelets squeeze between her white tank top and wrist.
"This is not why I called you here. I was going to assign you a night shift for the lobby since 012 is dead. You're my number one man, 001, don't make me make you do lowly things like this. You're here for better work."
001 stayed silent, keeping his gaze down. I stared at him, thinking of what he might be thinking of. I bet he'd rather do things like that than kill others. But I couldn't be sure enough since I didn't know the guards' objectives.
