I closed my eyes. My eyelashes curled up as they closed on my tears, wetting like mascara. I hadn't heard a single sound from that room. Even though I couldn't handle hearing his screams, at that moment, I wanted to listen to his voice so badly even if it was just him letting it out. He deserved to. He needed to. Why didn't he?
The doors opened. I immediately wiped my tears with the back of my hand, standing up as I heard footsteps form over my shoulder. I finally saw four bodies walk in front of me as soon as I finished turning myself towards them.
Ignoring everyone else, I looked at Cole, seeing the tips of his finger and toes shaded into a deep blue colour, mixing with the blood's red pigment too. He stared at the ground, his nose and cheeks coloured black. His lips seemed like they were tinted with a dark shade of purple.
They held him from each arm.
I lowered my brows in agony, seeing his every step leave a bloody footprint behind him.
I gasped shakingly, breaking the silence. I stepped back in shock as I held back my tears.
003 opened the cell.
I immediately helped the guard open the door, pushing it to my right as it slid open. My eyes never left Cole's face. I watched his frosted eyelashes shut tighter as 003 let him go. I quickly put his right arm around my neck before he fell.
I shuddered, holding on to him.
He was cold as ice...
No...
Colder.
I winced, my left knee colliding with the ground as I tried to hold his heavy body up. He groaned, gently opening his eyes. I placed my other knee on the ground too, helping him sit against the wall as I sat on my knees on his right side, cornered between him and the wall parallel to the bars.
Clang!
003 shut the door. 001 and 004 were already on their way out as the last guard locked our cell. I listened to the departing footsteps, moving back to look at Cole.
He stared at the ground, his legs out in front of him. His hands hung on both his sides. I looked at his pale and pink limbs, noticing how none of them had any life in them.
"Cole?" My vision slowly began to blur as I blinked rapidly, trying to dismiss the liquid in my eyes. "Please say something."
My voice shook as I clenched my shirt from my knees, leaning forward to look at his face.
"Are you okay?"
I tried to look into his eyes but he wouldn't open them. I looked at his black and brown ombre nose. There was blood dripping from his nose, slowly slipping to his upper lip. I lifted my shaking hand, loosely closing my right digits. I knitted my brows, gently wiping the red liquid with my index finger, my skin feeling the prickle from the little hairs on his skin.
My heart ached to see him like that.
I pulled my hand to myself, wiping his blood on my shirt. My brows quivered, seeing his cheek bones and the bridge of his nose pigmented in the red liquid that was seeping from his skin pores. I hissed internally in pain, air escaping my lips unintentionally. I looked at his hand, raising mine to hold his. My fingers wrapped around his palm as my eyes widened, feeling the intensity of how cold his skin was.
