I looked at the shallow pile of empty, crumpled, plastic bottles in the far distance against the wall, outside of the cell. My throat dried thinking of water.

Two days had passed since Cole was tortured. And the worst part was that no one came to give us water nor a washroom break! I had to go so bad! I already skipped the last trip that we were granted just to listen to Seliel and Morro talk. Maybe I was going to have to risk doing both things the next time.

I leaned my head back against the wall behind me, staring at Cole sleep.

It was silent. But, even in such a quiet place, I wasn't sleepy. It was all I had been doing for the past two days. What else was I going to do in such a tedious cell but catch up on my sleep?

"You're staring." Cole's voice vibrated in the cell as he spoke with his head still tucked in his arms.

"What?" I sat up straight, alert.

He looked up at me, cocking an eyebrow.

"O-Oh, I was just thinking of," I cleared my throat, "Of how bad it prolly hurt."

"You really wanna know?"

"I mean." I looked around, shrugging my shoulders slightly. "I don't know."

He sighed.

"Hmm. Never mind that," he said.

I stared at him.

He shook his head. "Uh, how's your arm?" He pointed his index finger at me.

"Oh." I looked at the bandage, deciding to unwrap it. "I think it's better. I mean, it feels better."

I took off my gauze, scrutinizing the chain as it closely tunneled through the two parts of my skin. It was joined together from some areas. That was a sign that the chain had helped. I gently poked on the chain, squeezing it in my skin.

"It would be better to take the chain out at this point, right?" I tilted my arm to show Cole. I didn't want it to be embedded within me forever.

"Yeah." He nodded.

I looked at my arm, pulling the end of the chain which was left hanging by the end of my wound. I winced. It wasn't going to get out easily with just one hand. I needed someone to hold back my skin while I did so.

I looked at Cole.

"Here. Let me do it." He sat up, scootching towards me.

I watched him criss-cross his legs as he adjusted in front of me. I tenderly held my arm in front of me until he held my wrist in his left hand. I watched his hair hang over in between us as he instantly got to work. He carefully pulled out one loop at a time. The thumb of his hand that held me pressed against my skin to tighten the loose wound. I watched his bandaged palms work over my arm as I winced periodically, clenching the bar in front of me with my right hand. I squeezed the bandage that I had removed between my right palm and the alloy. He continued, gently pulling the chain out of my skin. His left fingers sunk into my softened skin as he held my limb. I closed my eyes until I finally felt the metal depart my skin fully.

He held the chain in the air, watching the blood drip off of it. I looked at the chain.

"Sorry for soaking your expensive chain with blood." I looked at him straight faced.
