Michelle's pov
no matter how many times these past few weeks Arizona has told me not to apologise, I still feel guilty about not saying the L word back to her. Tonight was no different. After i kissed her head she started to trace around a few of my scars, stopping at the scar from when Ray stabbed me.
Arizona- babe?
Shell- mhmm
Arizona- why did he stab you? you don't have to tell me if you don't want to
Shell- um... it's fine... I lied to him, and he wanted the truth.
Arizona(looking up at me)- what did you lie about?
Shell- I told him I thought I was pregnant, thinking he would leave me alone for a while, but I was wrong. he got me a test and when I refused to take it he stabbed me. He knew that if he took me to urgent care they would do a blood test and it would have the answer for him.
Arizona- didn't the doctors ask questions?
Shell- yeah, they did. But Ray was friends with the head paediatrician and had him convinced i did it to myself... so nothing more came of it. We lived in a small town outside of Boston where everybody knew everybody.
Arizona- that's so awful. I'm sorry that happened to you.
I stroked her hair and gave her another kiss on the head. We both soon fell asleep in each other's arms. At around 4 in the morning Arizona and I got a 911 page. There had been a huge pile up on the freeway. We both jumped up straight away and quickly put on some clothes before rushing out the door to go to the hospital. We arrived shortly after the first rig arrived.
Owen- Robbins, we got a kid in trauma 2. Grey you will be needed for the next arrival.
As the morning went by i ended up with 2 patients. One was on a 36 year old woman, who had spinal shock from the accident. Thankfully there wasn't any permanent damage to her spinal cord. She came in with temporary paralysis which went away after a few hours. The other wasn't so lucky, it was a 70 year old man who had a major brain bleed. Part the way through his surgery, his brain began to swell and we lost him. This loss put me in a bad mood for the rest of my shift. One minute things were looking good for him, the next he was gone. I felt exhausted and it wasn't even 10 am. I took myself outside to grab a coffee from the decent coffee cart. I sat outside just enjoying the sounds of the city around me while sipping on my coffee. I felt somebody place their hand on my shoulder, which made me jump.
Shell- shit!
Meredith- oh, i'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.
Shell- that's okay.
Meredith- tough morning?
Shell- just a hard loss.
Meredith- I'm sorry about that.
Shell- I'll be fine.
Meredith- the chief has called for a meeting for attendings and fellows at 10.30.
Shell- yeah, i saw that.
Meredith- Derek found Mark's other daughter. She should be flying here in a few days.
Shell- that's fantastic...
Meredith- it is... We have been approved to adopt Zola.
Shell(tired smile)- that's great.
Meredith- really? You think so.
Shell- personally no, i think you're crazy... but its great for you.
Meredith(hugging shell)- thanks. You had better get to that meeting.
