Herschel Greene's barn, afternoon...
Eleanor Adams sat outside the farm, a black flannel wrapped around her body as she leaned against the far side of the barn. Resting her head against the chipped paint on the wooden slats, trying desperately to drown out the sounds of the people inside.
Pain.
That's all she heard from the inside of that barn. The muffled sounds of skin on skin contact coupled with small groans and cries.
It was a lot to listen to along with her racing mind.
Her brain was overloaded by yesterday's events. How late at night, in the confines of the living room, her brother cried softly into her chest, bearing his heart to her. He told her just how sorry he really was for what he had put her through and how thankful he was that she had saved him, even though he didn't act like it.
Ellie assured him that she would do anything for her brother, and she found herself promising that a lot these days. She told Carl and Sophia just the same thing... and look how that had turned out for the latter.
Elle couldn't help it, she had a soft spot for kids. Most people did, though she never pictured herself as being a very good mother. A kickass aunt to Tucker's kids? Sure thing, but she wasn't cut out to do all of the things her own mother or Lori were so good at.
As she sat leaning against Herschel's old barn she almost felt bad for the kid they had strapped up in there. Looped up on what pain meds they had and being interrogated all at the same time.
Almost. He still had tried to shoot her after all and sent a rogue fist at her face when she was only trying to help.
The barn door swung open and Daryl walked out, he winced at his split knuckles and wiped the blood off with a red bandana. "You been sitting here this whole time?" Elle just nodded at the man.
"You said you were gonna need my help." The blonde shrugged. He was so gruff when he talked but she knew he didn't mean his words the way they came out.
"I said I maybe was gonna need y'help, don't you have something else to do?" Daryl looked at her.
"Not really, everyone is being weird because I had to kill those men in town, they think I'm not okay or something–"
"Are you okay?" Daryl interrupted.
"Jesus Christ, I'm fine." Elle breathed out, pulling her knees to her chest. "And everyone is worried about Tucker and Beth now, if I show my face in the house I'll be thrown up in the bedroom too. I don't wanna be put in the psych ward, I worked there once... not a good place to be." The girl rambled, though Daryl could tell she was still bothered by what had happened with Beth and her brother yesterday.
Reasonably so, even though he and Merle fought all the time Daryl still cared for him. When he'd come home that Christmas morning and Merle was passed out on the couch knocking at death's door it scared the daylights out of him.
