"Aankho ki nami m ,

Jo baatein batayi nhi gyi ,

"Tumne to abhi bas ek leher dekhi hai ,
Usne to dabaye apne andar aise manzar hazaar hai!"

AADHIRA’S POV

We were almost done with dinner and about to get up when Mom spoke, capturing everyone's attention. "So Kabir, when are you going to file for divorce?"

The moment I heard those words, the spoon slipped from my hand, clattering onto the plate.

A wave of shock washed over me, and it felt as if my heart had stopped beating. I sat there frozen, completely paralyzed by disbelief, until Dad's voice broke through the haze.

"What? Divorce? Why?" His eyes turned to Kabir, searching for answers, while my fist tightened instinctively at the side of his kurta.

"Why divorce, Mom? Have you taken some drugs?" he mocked, while again focusing on the food and feeding me a morsel taking me a little aback.

"Not me, my dear son, but I think you must have, since it seems you've forgotten that you agreed to marry her only on the condition that you would divorce her after a year." Mom replied with an evil smile and a for a moment I felt like someone snatched my breath.

Kabir glanced at me, placing his hand over mine, trying to reassure me with his smile before turning to Mom and shouting, "I never did anything like that! It was you who came up with such a ridiculous condition, but I never agreed to it. I only went along because of the circumstances in front of me, that's all!"

I had been hoping Kabir would say that he loved me, that I mattered to him, that he hadn't married me just because of some absurd condition. But he didn't.

Something in me broke but then It was also true that we weren't in love at that moment so why would he say something that isn't true.

But now we are! So why can't he just tell her and announce to everyone that we love each other?

The silence that followed felt heavy, filled with unspoken feelings and the weight of what could have been. My heart ached, longing for him to stand up for us, to declare our love and break free from the shadows of doubt that loomed over our relationship.

"So ultimately, you didn't want this marriage, right? Then why don't you divorce her?" Shivani aunty asked, and I felt my body getting numb at her words as my face went blank, devoid of any emotions.

I felt frozen as he replied with a smile, his voice calmer than ever. "You're right, Mom; I never wanted this marriage to happen. But now, THIS MARRIAGE WILL ONLY END WITH MY LAST BREATH, and not even after that," he declared, his last words came out loud , echoing in the room.

He held my hands, intertwining our fingers, and glanced at me for a moment before turning to everyone again.

"I AM NEVER GOING TO LEAVE HER, NOR WILL I LET HER LEAVE ME AT ANY COST! Am I clear this time?" He spoke loud enough for everyone to hear, including Mom, whose eyes were now red with anger, gritting her teeth in annoyance.

I was busy gazing at him with a smile as the determination of his words when, Shivani Aunty shouted in frustration, "But whyyyy? Why can't you leave her?"

"Because she is my wife and I fucking love her to the death" Kabir shouted at the top of his lungs, getting up from the chair in anger , the soft look in his eyes was long gone as his eyes look firce , burning in anger.
