First impression

Shane's pov

Hello people let me introduce myself. I am Shane and I am friends with Paige and Azzi since their time in team USA. We met during their tournament and after that we became close friends. This year I transferred to UConn and after many years i would see them again. Of course we have held contact throughout the years but it's another feeling being with someone in real life except for messages. I got off my motorbike and placed my helmet on my bicep as I entered the coffee shop. As I entered the shop I saw my friend Azzi sitting on a stool waiting for her coffee. "Hey there cutie" I whispered in her ear making her jump a little before hitting my arm slightly "Fuck you you scared me" she said laughing. She got up and hugged me tightly before she sat down. "Missed you too curly head" I said as I placed my helmet on the stool in front of me and took off my jacket. "How come you're here? Aren't you too busy or sum" she asked with an eyebrow raised and I laughed as I hung my jacket and sat down beside her with the helmet on my hand. "Well I finished my homework early and I have practice in like two hours so no I am not busy. Why do you ask? Are you tired of me already?" I said with a pout on my face pretending to be hurt. "Bitch I might be. No but seriously I am really glad you're here. I haven't seen you much since you left Minnesota" she said placing her hand on my shoulder with a smile. It's true that we haven't talked much since I last saw her in person which is sad really but I needed some time alone after what was happening with my family those years. "A Cappuccino and a Latte with caramel?" The waitress asked and we looked at her telling her that they are our drinks. "Come on Paige is here as well with a teammate of ours. Come say hi. Oh let me warn you they are trying some shit with our teammate's laptop so she might be a bit on edge. Not much. The usual you know" she said and I nodded as I laughed as I pictured Paige on a laptop trying to figure her shit out. As we got closer to the table I saw two girls struggling on doing something on the computer but I contained my laugh. "Paige look who's finally blessed us with their presence" Azzi said and as Paige looked up briefly and saw me her eyes returned to the laptop before looking back at me only now with wide eyes. "Shane?" She asked not believing I was really there. "In the flesh" I said smiling as I opened my arms showing her that I am real. She smiled widely before getting up and throwing herself at me. We both laughed at her reaction "Missed me much little one?" I asked as I held her tightly. "You have no idea" she mumbled against my shoulder before backing up. "You've grown. Look at you all sexy and shit. I've heard you're a heartbreaker now" I said and she laughed looking at the floor a bit before saying yes. I smiled at her as she sat back down "oh right. Um Nika this is Shane she was a really good friend of ours in Minnesota. Shane this is Nika a teammate of ours" Azzi explained and I gave the brunette my hand to shake. She took it with a smile as we shaked hands "pleasure to meet you Shane" she said and I smirked before saying "pleasure is all mine Nika". We held eye contact for a minute before Paige groaned "I can't fix it. I don't know what is wrong with it's program" she said talking to Nika. My eyebrows scrunched before asking "what's wrong blondie?". She groaned again once more before replying "Nika's laptop has an error and we are trying to fix it but Azzi knows nothing about computers and me and Nika can't seem to find what's wrong with it" Paige explained and I nodded understanding. "Wait isn't your major engineering?" Azzi asked and I nodded puzzled. "Can you take a look at it and see if you can do anything about this? Cause I honestly give up" Paige asked with puppy eyes. Nika was still observing me as I looked at the laptop before sighing and getting up. I stood beside Paige and Nika placing my left hand on the table for stability as my bicep flexed. "Alright let's see" I said lowly to myself. Although I couldn't help but notice that Nika was staring at me and my hands the whole time. I was enjoying the attention from the brunette but I focused on the laptop and it's problem trying to fix it. "Have you tried to rerun the program or check the IP addresses?" I asked Paige without my eyes leaving the screen. "Uh no I don't know what is that" she admitted and I said it's okay before refocusing on rerunning the program. After a few minutes I let out a sigh as I pushed myself of the table. "I think it's good to go now. How bout you give it a test and tell me" I said sitting back down to my seat sipping on my coffee. A small but visible smirk appeared on Nika's face making me smile at my work. "So how is the team treating you so far?" Azzi asked getting me out of my trance. "Well you know I'm still the new girl but most of them seem chill" I said and she nodded. "Who are you rooming with?" Paige asked without looking at me trying to see if the laptop is okay. "With a teammate of mine her name is Ava" I answered and she hummed in response. After a minute she closed the laptop with a smile and said "if I ever break something I'll give to you so you can fix it. The laptop is as good as new". A smile found it's way to my face as I laughed at her comment. "Now this is some useful knowledge" Azzi said with a smile seeming proud of me. "Y'all I enjoy your company I really do but I have to go get changed and put gass on the bike before practice. I'll see you around though" I said as I got up. "You have a bike?" Nika asked curious and I smiled before answering "yea. My baby's right outside. If you want I can give you a ride now that I am leaving. Going somewhere?" I offered and she slightly blushed. "Not now but I might steal a ride with you sometime" she said and I winked before nodding and getting up. "Hold on! We are going out after our practice. Will you be done at 8?" Paige asked. I looked at Nika and Azzi before smirking "yeah I will. Practice ends at 7:30 so I'll come to yours to see you for the rest and after I'll come with y'all" I said and Paige hugged me once again with a huge smile on her face before sitting back down "See ya later" I said before winking at Nika and leaving the coffee shop. I put my jacket and the helmet on before going towards the nearest gass station. During the whole ride all I could think about was the brunette I just met and our intense eye contact. Every girl I meet can't keep an eye contact with me. Others because they blush and look away and others because their eyes go down to my lips and more never staying on just my eyes. But she could hold the eye contact to the next level. Impressive. After putting gass on the bike I made my way to the building where the dorms were and headed to mine so I could change. "Ava I'm back!" I shouted and heard something fall from her room and moments later Ava got out trying to put on a proper bun her hair. "How was coffee?" She asked as she sat down on the couch. "Good. I saw two friends of mine who are on the women's basketball team and I am really happy I saw them. I had missed them a lot. How bout you what did you do?" I asked as I motioned for her to follow me so I could get ready. "Well nothing much just talked to my girl on facetime and I ate some leftover wings from yesterday so I wouldn't pass out from hunger on the ice" she said as I took my shirt off. "Jesus man you gotta be careful on ice. The burn is still there" she said as her fingers traced across my wound making me wince and take a step away from her "Don't touch it. I know but it wasn't my fault and you know it. The bitch did it on purpose. We all saw it and that's why she's out for a few months" I said as I recalled the hard push I received from a player of another team during a game at a small tournament we took part in the summer "yeah you're not wrong that bitch was crazy as hell but still stay safe yo". Ava didn't say anything about how I said don't touch it so coldly referring to the injury. She knew I didn't like physical touch so she just nodded in response. As I put on the normal white sleeveless shirt I usually have under gear in practice and some shorts I got my duffel bag and took it with me to the living room. "Oh I'm going out later with the basketball team. I would have invited you but I know Sarah is picking you up. So just so you know I'll be a bit late tonight. Are you staying here or at hers?" I asked as I searched for my gloves so I can close my bag "Hers. We might have a sleepover so get your keys cause I don't think I'll come back today" I placed my things on top of the small table we had there and waited for ava  to go the bathroom real quick before we left. I sat down and scrolled through Instagram reels waiting for her as I saw a new notification. As I opened it I smirked as I saw who had followed me. "Are you ready?" Ava called out and I nodded with a smirk on my face as I grabbed the helmet. We would often go to practice together but I knew her girlfriend was picking her up so we didn't have a problem if I went out later. "Just call me if y'all decide to come here at some point" I warned and she nodded. I put the helmet on and we got on the bike as we went to the gym. Although deep down I knew that she was what I would be thinking about throughout the whole practice.
