Paying the price

Shane's pov

It has been two weeks since Nika saw the video. Paige and Azzi told me to give her space. I made them speak with Ava who knew the story from scratch and they believed that I was not to blame. But Nika wouldn't dare to even look at me. In the hallways she would go past me as if i didn't exist. She had blocked me from every platform possible. I had no way of contacting her. I started practices once again and I actually found so much support from the sport and the team telling me that it was going to be okay. I learned avout nika's news through Paige who tried to be as supportive as possible. I missed her so much it was eating me alive. But honestly I did everything in my power. I sent an email since she didn't reply to my messages. I slipped a note in her dorm. I tried getting Paige to talk to her. Nothing worked. Tonight was the first game after my injury. I was extremely nervous to say the least. Paige had reassured me that she would be there cheering. I was at the hallway outside the lockers. I needed some time alone without the growls of my team and the shit they talked about the other team. I sat down on the floor outside a suply closet. I was staring at the wall in front of me. In my last game I had Nika telling me i would be great. And now? Silence. I rested my head on my knees as i took a sip from my energy drink. I felt someone stand next to me but I didn't give it much thought. I just ignored their presence until.."Get up" i heard. I froze. I knew that voice. I looked up instantly not believing my eyes or ears. Once i saw her i got up in a heartbeat like a soldier following orders. I didn't speak. I waited. "Why" she asked plainly. "Uh what?" I asked. I lost my words. I couldn't think. "Are you stupid? Why did you do it?" She said pissed. "I didn't!" I said. Louder than i wanted to. I felt my eyes burn. I looked away for a moment to regain my self control.

"Yo Shane! We're getting in in fifteen!"

Someone shouted. "I'll be there!" I shouted back before returning my gaze to her. "Whatever you think happened... It didn't. You didn't let me explain. And I can't explain now" i said not looking at her. She grabbed my chin and forced me to look at her. "Don't touch me like that!" I broke. She looked at me worried. "I didn't cheat on you. The girl you saw in the video wanted to get me in trouble. Caroline is a nightmare for me! She always wanted me for sex and always said someone was better than me knowing what it did to my mind. She thought i was the same person i was in Canada. But I'm NOT. And i told her that. And she was disappointed when she found out i had a girlfriend because I told her that. I didn't drink so I wouldn't do anything stupid. And you can ask every single person on the team. Or even paige and Azzi who did speak to the girls about it and learnt the truth. You just never let me explain. I'm not your ex Nika. I'm not fucking Nahiem!" I shouted the last part tired of suppressing my feelings. I took out my phone and called Ava. Not long after i called she picked up. "Hey sorry for the random question but do you remember when we were at the club with the team after the win?" I asked looking at her dead serious. I put the girl on speaker so Nika would hear. "Oh yeah yeah i remember you were on full dad mode. You kinda ruined all the fun by not drinking but eh. What about it?" She asked. "So um do you remember if I drunk or flitted with anyone? We were together all the time so i figured you would remember" i said in the verge of crying. "Oh hell no man. There was this girl that came towards you and talked to you for a minute but after it you were a bit pissed and shoved her to the side" i looked at the girl's eyes a tear shedding through mine "Okay thanks man I'll see you in five" i said and hung up the phone. "I-" "save it. I need a goddamn break" i cut her off. I was pissed off with her not believing me. I started walking off before i stopped in my tracks. "Fuck it" i murmured and turned around. I walked towards her angrily before grabbing her waist and pulling her towards me. I kissed her hard letting all the frustration in me go. I broke the kiss and looked at her. "I will score for you tonight. And you'll see what happens after the match. Because I'm gonna win. And we're gonna celebrate" i said before taking off sipping my energy drink. I entered the locker room and the girls erupted with cheers hyping eachother up. Only now I was matching their energy. I was utterly determined to win tonight.
