Shane's pov

It was now 9 pm. I had just got done with work and I decided to go for a drink just to clear my mind. "Hey Alex" I greeted the barman from the pub where I normally go. "Shane! Long time no see. The usual?" He asked and I nodded with a small smile. "yeah it's been a minute. How are you?" I asked and he turned around with my beer handing it to me. "oh you know same old same old. Linda is pregnant!" He said with a huge smile on his face. Linda was his five year girlfriend. We have gone out all three of us plenty of times. She is pretty cool. "Oh my god!? Congratulations man" I said surprised and he thanked me. Although the happy news my mood still was a bit bad. I had seen a nightmare this morning and I got into a fight with someone at the shop so this wouldn't be the best day of my life. Alex saw that I wasn't in a good vibe. "Hey. You are not cocky and you don't hit on any woman in here tonight. What's wrong?" He asked. I laughed at my habits that he brought up.  "I don't got mind for other girls now. I met this girl and she is just one of a kind" I admitted and saw him get shocked. "WHAT? You out of all people liking a girl was not on my bucket list. So tell me about her girl whatchu waiting for?" He said and we both laughed at how shocked he was. "Her name is Nika. She plays on the basketball team of UConn and she is good friends with Paige. That's how I met her. She is really beautiful. And cocky. So that's a yes from me. She was a bit shy when we first met but ever since she has been pretty cool. I don't know man she got me hooked up not gonna lie" I said letting everything I held in me out. I haven't talked to anyone about Nika like that. Alex just nodded amused by what he was hearing. He wasn't used to me being a lover girl. He smiled at me "That's great news Shane. We have now realized you're not heartless!! Wait Linda is here let me get her so she can tell you her opinion" he said and went to the back. I laughed at how he reacted and looked around taking a sip from my beer while waiting for the couple to come out front. It was pretty chill today. Although there is this one guy who keeps looking over here. "Oh. my. god. Shanee how long has it been girl?!?" Linda shouted coming to hug me with a huge smile on her face. "Hey there future mama! Congratulations!" I said hugging her back. We laughed at the nickname and she sat at the stool next to me. "Thank you thank you. So what is this chick Alex told me you're preying on?" She asked curiously and I laughed at her phrase before answering. "Well yeah there is this girl that totally gets me and she brings my protective instincts out. I really like her dude I don't know what to do" I admitted and Linda furrowed her eyebrows "you out of all people don't know what to do about a girl? Shit this is serious" she commented and I silently agreed. I am pretty fucked if you ask me. I threw a look around only to see Paige and Azzi in the same booth a bit further in the pub. At first I didn't do anything cause I didn't recognize them immediately. They seemed pretty close laughing and being in each other's arms. I furrowed my ass but it must be the alcohol. I think I saw them kiss? I don't know I'm not sure. Although the dude that was staring at me before was now shouting at them to stop and I saw that Paige was getting pretty angry. She stood up and the dude pushed her back. He was clearly drunk but I could tell this would escalate quickly. And damn was I right. The dude punched Paige sending her back and pushed her against the wall. She punched him back and they both got into a fight real quick "Um excuse me guys I'll be back" I said and they both nodded while watching what was happening. I got there in like a second and before the guy could do anything else I ripped him off of Paige and pushed him back. "What are you doing dude?! You wanna prove you're a man by beating a woman?" I asked and saw that he was furious with what I said. "Of course you all fags stick together! Y'all will burn in hell!" He shouted and went to push me but I grabbed his hand and twisted it before pushing him back. I laughed at his comment before responding "Yeah we will. But so will your wife cause I fucked her last night. Now go away or I'll show you how much more of a man I am unlike you". He was not in the right state of his mind and it was crystal clear. A couple of guys came to his side and took him away apologizing while I signalled then that it was okay. I turned around and saw Paige with a bloody nose and Azzi standing by her with a worried expression. "I can't go one day without getting you out of trouble" I said while Azzi threw me a smile. "Let me see" I told Paige and went to take her head in my hands but she looked the other way. "Paige I'm not gonna say this twice. Turn around" I said and she gave in. I gave it a look and it didn't seem pretty bad. It was just a bit swollen. "Just put some ice on it. It's not that bad. Put some ice and then go home" I said strictly and she just nodded. "You okay?" I asked and she looked at me with teary eyes. I understood immediately that she wasn't okay with getting told that she would go to hell. She is a deeply religious person and that must've hurt much more than being called a fag. I sighed and hugged her just so she would understand that I knew what she was dealing with and that I was here for her. She returned the hug and I looked at Azzi who was deeply embarrassed but I didn't say anything else. I patted her back and told them to head out and they both thanked me before leaving. I made my way back to my two friends questioned me about the whole scene.

Nika's pov

I stood against the doorframe of Paige's room waiting for her to change. Bruises allover her back and she seemed to be thinking about something. Her nose was a bit swollen too. Her mind was clearly elsewhere and she had puffy eyes. "What are you thinking about boogers?" I asked trying to understand her. She looked back at me and let out a small laugh "nothing important why?" She said and I shrugged in response. "So what's going on with you and Shane? You haven't updated me in a while" she said sitting down trying to change the mood and signalled for me to sit down. I felt a rush of heat come to my cheeks and sat down trying to find the words to talk about our situation "I don't know. I mean she is super sweet and caring and she shows that I am one of a kind. She clearly has an interest in me I am not that dumb but all the shit about her being a player, heartless and emotionally unavailable is holding me back. I mean I don't want to be just one of the girls she fucks and never calls again. She is I don't know I just don't want to lose what we already have. I don't know what to do" I rumbled and I saw her smiling pretty hard while shaking her head at what I said. "What? Why are you being like that?" I asked laughing at her expression. She was smiling like she knew something and I was getting scared while she didn't talk. "You like her A LOT Niks. I can see it. Maybe she can see it too. You two are all the time all lovey dovey and shit. I haven't seen her like that in a long time just so you know" she said and I laughed realizing she was right. "Okay but what should I do?" I asked her and she thought about it for a second. "I mean I could talk to her see what her opinion for you is. But I gotta warn you she has her ups and downs. Don't expect this to be easy" she said while flinching when she sat a certain way. I was worried about her. "What's wrong?" I asked and she just waved me off "it's nothing I just train too hard lately" she said a poor excuse and I just didn't say anything else cause I knew she wouldn't tell me. "Have you seen Shane today?" I asked and saw her expression change. She let out a cough. One that tried keeping a secret. I knew that cough of hers. She tried covering it but I could see through her. She was hiding something "Um no I haven't seen her at all today. Why?" She asked and I found a bit weird the way she said that. "No reason I just haven't seen her that's all. Anyways I'll go to my room now if you need anything come to me" I said and she nodded before I left. I didn't tell her about the phone or about the problems with Nahiem. I didn't feel ready. I don't even know how to begin and explain to her what has happened. With Shane it was just too easy. But what really confused me was why did she respond like that. She seemed hesitant. I knew she was lying I just can't understand why. Was she with someone else? Is she just playing with me? Is she just using me to pass the time? I mean she is a hot hockey player. Who wouldn't wanna be with her right? But she wouldn't do that. She bought me a whole new ass phone without me asking for it. She's always there for me no matter what. She's treating me like I am a princess. I don't know what to think anymore really. I gotta talk to her honestly at some point.
