It's finally summer

It's finally summer. And Athena is now out of the hospital and back home. It's May's graduation party today and I'm currently getting ready.

Final exams took a toll on me, but I got through them. And I passed.

I'm proud of myself. I went through a lot this year, and I made it.

I made it through.

********

I walk into the Grant-Nash household and head down the stairs. "Hey Lydia." Bobby says. "Hey!" I say with a small smile. "Well, there you are! I was wondering why you were so late." Dad says.

"LA traffic sucks. I think we all know that!" I say. Athena laughs as she walks over to me. I give her a hug, careful of her broken arm. "I'm glad you made it." Athena says.

"I wouldn't miss this." I say with a small smile. May sees me and she smiles before walking over. She hugs me tightly then pulls away. "How's it feel to officially be an elder?" I ask jokingly.

May laughs. "I don't know. It's weird. Now that I think about it, it feels like senior year flew by." May says. "People say that does happen." I say. "I'm glad it's over though. High school is horrible. Senior year is worse." May says.

"Thanks May!" I say sarcastically. "Sorry." May says with a laugh. "I know it's going to be stressful. But that's what I have everyone here for." I say. "I'll always be here. When you're having a hard time with applications or if you're having a hard time in general. I'm one call away." May says.

I smile at her. "So, Miss Graduate. What are your plans?" I ask. Athena has walked away by now, busying herself in a conversation with Hen and Karen.

"I want to become a dispatcher." May says. "Really?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. That is not what I expected.

"Yeah. After hearing what Mom went through, I want to be there. I want to protect her. I want to help others." May says. "That's a really good idea. I think you'd be great at it." I say. "Thank you. I still need to talk to Maddie about all of the details but I'm pretty sure I'm going to at least try it." May says.

"I'm glad you found a thing. I know you've been stressing about College." I say. "Yeah. It's a stressful time, but you just need to breathe and say it will be okay, because in the end it will be." May says.

"And if it's not okay, it's not the end." Me and her say at the same time. I laugh and so does she. "Popular quote." I say with a small smile.

"Yeah, but I never really thought so much of it until now. I used to think my life would be horrible forever." May says. "It's one of my favorites." I say.

"Now, shall we dance?" I ask as someone turns music on. May laughs as I pull her near the music. We start dancing together and so does everyone else.

Everything feels okay then. The joy in the room illuminates through everyone and everything around us.

We're a big family and I couldn't ask for anything more.
