Tanya's POV.
I was now 9 months pregnant, the baby was said to be coming soon.
I had started getting contractions a lot.
I quickly called out for Darren, who was in the bathroom.
Darren was taking a shower when he heard my voice calling out for him.
Without wasting a moment, he turned off the water and wrapped a towel around his waist before rushing to find me.
"Tanya, what's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
I was sitting on the edge of the bed, my body slightly hunched over as I tried to breathe through the discomfort.
"I think... the baby's coming," I managed to get out between laboured breaths.
Darren's eyes widened in realisation.
"Wait, what? Now?" He rushed over to my side, crouching down to meet my eye level. "Are you sure it's not just Braxton Hicks contractions or something?"
I shook my head, wincing as another contraction passed through me.
"No, these are definitely the real thing. The contractions are getting stronger and closer together, and I think my water broke."
Darren's expression shifted from concern to a mixture of excitement and anxiety.
"Okay, okay, we can handle this. Let's take deep breaths and stay calm, alright?" While speaking, he started to get dressed, throwing on a random shirt and sweatpants. "How far apart are the contractions?"
I took a moment to focus and evaluate the timing.
"About five minutes," I replied, my voice a bit shaky.
Darren nodded, a look of determination in his eyes.
"Alright, let's get you to the hospital. The contractions are close enough that it would be safer for you and the baby."
While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Darren stayed by my side, offering words of reassurance and helping me breathe through the contractions.
"You're doing great," he repeated over and over. "Just breathe in and breathe out, nice and slow. You're going to be fine, and the baby's going to be fine too."
Despite the pain, I tried my best to stay calm.
The excitement of welcoming our baby into the world was mixed with a bit of fear, but having Darren by my side made it bearable.
As the ambulance arrived, Darren helped me into the vehicle and hopped into the back with me.
The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity.
Darren never left my side, holding my hand and wiping the sweat off my forehead.
Once we reached the hospital, the medical staff immediately took charge, wheeling me into a delivery room.
Things became a blur as doctors and nurses bustled around me, setting up equipment and preparing for the delivery.
Despite the chaos, Darren remained my anchor, his presence grounding me in the midst of everything.
The contractions intensified, the pain becoming more sharp and intense with each one.
Darren stayed by my side, holding my hand and telling me how strong and amazing I was.
The thought of meeting our baby soon fueled me to push through the pain.
After what seemed like forever, the room suddenly went quiet.
