The Finale

⚠️TW: blood mentions, angst

(Clays pov)

------

A few months had gone by, life was pretty normal for Clay and George. Luca and Patches were all good and they all still lived together in the same house.

One morning, Clay and George had plans for a stargazing date that night by a cliffside they often went to. They were sitting in the living room, rewatching some random series for what felt like the hundred time.

George was leaning against Clays shoulder, wrapped in his favorite blanket, half asleep. The only sounds were the speech from the TV and the purring from the cats until a loud sneeze was heard.

"You okay?" Clay chuckled and looked down at George.

"I'm fi-" George began before he was cut off by another sneeze.

"Did you catch a cold again, love?" Clay asked.

"I don't know, maybe." George replied.

"I'll go get you a glass of water." Clay said, he stood up, paused the TV and went to the kitchen.

He could hear George sneezing every now and then before it got quiet.

"Clay..!" George yelled in a slightly paniced voice.

Clay went back into the living room and saw George standing up, his hands covering the lower part of his face and his eyes wide open in what seemed like horror.

"What's going on?" Clay asked as he got closer to George and put his hand on the side of Georges face.

George moved his hands a few centimeters away from his face revealing blood in his palms and around his nose and mouth.

Clays eyes widened, had George caught the virus, KH404..? But they had survived for so long, it was impossible, right?

"Oh my god!" Clay said paniced.

Their breaths were heavy, eyes widened as they starred at each other, unsure about what to do.

Clay ran off to the kitchen, grabbed some paper towels and helped George clean the blood off of his face and hands.

Just when the blood was mostly off, George sneezed again, no blood this time. He started swaying around, his eyes looking lost.

"Clay... I don't feel very-" George began, not able to finnish his sentence before passing out, Clay catching him just in time.

"George?"

"George?!"

"Wake up, love!"

"This isn't funny!"

""HELLO?!"

"GEORGE!?"

"Come on. Please, George!"

He shook him, he put his ear to Georges face, no breathing. He got flashbacks from the lake years before.

He laid Georges body flat on the floor and started to do CPR.

Seconds became minutes, minutes became hours.

Clay gave up. Luca and Patches had gotten down from the couch and were now sniffing and carefully nudging Georges hands.

Clay backed off a bit. Tears started to form. He didn't cry often but he didn't know what else t o do in that moment.

He starred at Georges unconcious body. He hadn't felt this kind of loss before. Sure, he had lost his family and 'friends' but he wasn't nearly as close to any of them as he was to George. He didn't love any of them nearly as much as he loved George.
