"Hey, Tae, did you hear that?" Jungkook's eyes darted around the quiet living room, searching for the source of the distant sound.
Taehyung looked up from his book, a furrow of concern etching its way into his brow. "What is it?"
Jungkook shrugged, his gaze lingering on the hallway. "It sounded like a... I don't know, a thump or something."
Taehyung set his book aside and tilted his head, listening intently. "Maybe it's Bam playing with one of his toys?"
Jungkook's frown deepened. "Bam's out in the yard. It's something else."
The two exchanged glances, the sudden silence between them thick with unspoken worry. They had learned to trust each other's instincts over the years, and if Jungkook heard something unusual, it usually meant there was a good reason for it. Taehyung stood up, placing a hand on Jungkook's shoulder. "Let's go check it out."
They tiptoed down the hallway, the only sound the muffled patter of their feet on the plush carpet. As they approached the bedroom, the thump grew louder, now unmistakable. Jungkook pushed the door open gently, revealing the source of the noise: Yeontan, their fluffy little Pomeranian, was jumping excitedly on the bed. The sight of them sent him into a fit of barks and tail wags.
"Looks like someone's eager for their birthday party tomorrow," Taehyung chuckled, scooping Yeontan into his arms. The dog licked his face enthusiastically.
Jungkook couldn't help but smile at the sight, his tension easing slightly. "He's going to be five, can you believe it?"
Taehyung nodded, his eyes sparkling with affection as he cuddled Yeontan. "Time flies when you're having fun, right baby?" He kissed the top of the Pomeranian's head, feeling the warmth of his little body. "I guess we should make sure everything's set for tomorrow."
They walked back to the living room, Yeontan squirming in Taehyung's arms, eager to be put down and join Bam outside. Jungkook picked up the party planning list they had made earlier, scanning over the items with a critical eye. "We've got the decorations and the cake, but we're still missing some of the games and snacks."
Taehyung sighed, setting Yeontan down. "I'll handle the snacks. What kind of party would it be without some treats for our little prince?" He ruffled the dog's fur before heading to the kitchen.
Jungkook nodded, his mind racing with ideas for the perfect party games. "And I'll take care of the games. Maybe a little doggy obstacle course?"
Taehyung peeked into the kitchen, a smirk playing on his lips. "You and your competitive spirit."
Jungkook grinned back, his eyes alight with excitement. "Hey, a little healthy competition never hurt anyone, especially when it's for our fur babies."
While Taehyung got busy in the kitchen, rummaging through cabinets and drawers for snack supplies, Jungkook retreated to the garage to brainstorm the perfect games for Yeontan and Bam. He pulled out a few old cardboard boxes and some leftover Christmas lights, his imagination already piecing together a miniature obstacle course. As he worked, the thump of Taehyung's sneakers echoed from the kitchen, punctuated by the occasional clink of plates and the hum of the fridge. The aroma of something delicious began to waft through the air, making Jungkook's stomach rumble.
"Tae, what are you making?" Jungkook called out, pausing in his crafting.
"Just a little something special for the birthday boy," Taehyung replied, his voice muffled by the clatter of pots and pans.
Jungkook's curiosity piqued, he stepped into the kitchen to find Taehyung elbow-deep in a mixing bowl, flour dusting his cheeks like freckles. The counter was covered with an array of ingredients: peanut butter, honey, eggs, and a bag of doggie treats. The sight of his boyfriend, usually so meticulous and clean, covered in flour brought a warm smile to Jungkook's face.
