Taehyung tightened the leash around his hand as Yeontan, his fluffy Pomeranian, danced around his feet in eager anticipation of their night stroll. The rain had come without warning, a sudden downpour that painted the concrete sidewalks with a slick, shiny gloss. The droplets fell in a steady rhythm, muffling the distant sounds of the city. The quietude of the street was a stark contrast to the bustle of his usual walks, leaving Taehyung with only his thoughts and the pitter-patter of his dog's paws for company.

As they turned the corner, a solitary figure caught Taehyung's eye. A man sat hunched over on a bench, his face buried in his hands. The sight of his shoulders shaking in silent sobs tugged at Taehyung's heart.

He picked Yeontan up to keep him from getting soaked and approached the bench slowly, not wanting to startle the distressed stranger. The man looked up, revealing eyes red-rimmed with grief.

"Do you mind if I sit?" Taehyung asked gently, his voice barely audible over the patter of rain. The man's eyes widened with surprise but then nodded weakly. Taehyung settled onto the bench, placing Yeontan on his lap, who immediately began to lick his face in a show of concern.

Holding the umbrella above them, Taehyung offered a small, comforting smile. "It's okay, buddy," he murmured, stroking Yeontan's fur. The warmth of the dog's body seemed to spread to the man beside him, and his trembling slowed. Rainwater dripped from Taehyung's hair and clothes, but he ignored the chill, focusing instead on the quiet presence of the stranger.

Taehyung took out a thermos filled with warm water from his backpack, which was equipped with a handy pouch for dog treats and other small items. He hadn't planned to share it, but the sight of the man's misery made him want to offer whatever comfort he could.

"Would you like some?" he inquired, unscrewing the cap to reveal the steaming liquid within. The scent of mint and lemon wafted through the air, a comforting blend that reminded him of his mother's tea.

The man looked at the thermos, then back at Taehyung, his eyes brimming with a mix of suspicion and gratitude. "What is it?"

"It's mint and lemon infused water," Taehyung replied, his tone gentle. "It's my mom's recipe. It's supposed to warm you up from the inside out."

The man nodded, accepting the thermos with a trembling hand. He took a cautious sip, his eyes closing as the warmth spread through his chest. "Thank you," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.

They sat in a comfortable silence, the only sound being the rain and Yeontan's soft panting. Taehyung felt a strange kinship with the stranger, as if the shared experience of the moment had created an invisible bond between them.

After a few minutes, the man spoke up, his voice cracked with the effort. "My girlfriend... she left me today." His words hung in the air, heavy with pain.

Taehyung nodded, his heart aching for the stranger's loss. He didn't know what to say, so he simply listened as the man's story spilled out, a torrent of words that mirrored the rain. He talked about their fights, her accusations of neglect, the truth of her cheating on him ever since they dated, her using him for his money and how he had hoped the rain would wash away the tension between them, only to find her gone when it stopped.

Yeontan, sensing the heaviness in the air, curled into a tight ball on Taehyung's lap and laid his head on the man's hand. His fur was a soft warmth that seemed to seep into the man's soul, offering a small semblance of comfort.

Taehyung took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the stranger's words. He had never been one for easy fixes or cliché advice, but he knew that sometimes, just listening could mean the world. "I'm sorry," he offered, his voice genuine and empathetic.
