"Dude, you've gotta stop staring at him," Jimin said, nudging Jungkook's arm as they sat in the crowded college café. Jungkook jerked his gaze away from Taehyung, who was laughing at a joke told by a friend across the room. His cheeks flushed a shade of pink, and he took a hasty sip of his coffee, hoping the warmth would distract from the embarrassment burning through him.
"It's not my fault he's so... Taehyung," Jungkook mumbled into his mug.
Jimin chuckled. "Yeah, I know, but you're gonna make him feel like a zoo exhibit if you don't chill."
Jungkook sighed, setting his mug down. "You're right. But what if he says no?"
"You won't know unless you ask," Jimin said, patting Jungkook's back. "And if he does, you can move on, right?"
Jungkook nodded, his heart racing. He'd had a crush on Taehyung for what felt like an eternity, and today was the day he'd finally gather the courage to do something about it. Taehyung's laughter floated over to them, a melody that seemed to echo in Jungkook's chest. He took a deep breath and stood up.
"I'll be right back," he murmured to Jimin, who gave him an encouraging smile and a thumbs up. Jungkook's legs felt like jelly as he approached Taehyung's table. His classmates looked up, curiosity piqued. He could feel their eyes on him, but he focused solely on the person who made his heart flutter.
Taehyung looked up, his smile widening when he saw Jungkook. "Hey, what's up?" he asked, his voice smooth as silk. Jungkook felt his palms sweat as he took a deep breath.
"Can we talk for sec?" Jungkook blurted, his voice shakier than he intended. "In private?"
Taehyung's eyes searched his, and Jungkook's stomach twisted. He hadn't planned on asking in front of everyone, but the words had slipped out. Taehyung nodded, a hint of curiosity in his gaze, and stood up, following Jungkook to a quieter spot by the windows. Jungkook's heart thudded in his chest like a drum, setting the rhythm for his racing thoughts.
They stepped out of the café's buzz, the cool air from outside brushing against Jungkook's hot cheeks. Taehyung leaned against the window, his reflection casting a soft glow on the glass. Jungkook took a deep breath, his hands fidgeting in his pockets. "So," he began, "I wanted to ask you something."
Taehyung's smile remained, but his eyes searched Jungkook's, as if waiting for him to continue. Jungkook's heart pounded in his chest, echoing in his ears like a bass drum. "Would you... like to go out with me?" The words rushed out in a whisper.
Taehyung's eyes widened slightly, and he was silent for a moment that felt like an eternity. Jungkook's stomach plummeted, expecting a polite but firm rejection. But then, a smile grew on Taehyung's lips, not the teasing smirk that often graced his face, but a genuine, warm smile that reached his eyes. "Yes," he said simply. "I'd like that."
Relief flooded Jungkook's body, his legs threatening to give out beneath him. He managed to keep his composure, nodding slightly. "Great," he said, his voice a little too loud. "How about tomorrow night?"
Taehyung nodded, his eyes sparkling. "Sounds perfect. Arcade?"
Jungkook couldn't believe it. His crush had said yes. "Yeah," he stuttered, "the arcade's great."
They exchanged numbers and set a time to meet. Jungkook felt like he was floating as he made his way back to Jimin, who was watching him with a mix of amusement and pride. "How'd it go?" Jimin asked, his eyebrows raised.
Jungkook couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. "He said yes."
"What? No way!" Jimin exclaimed, jumping up from his chair. The café patrons turned to look at them, but Jungkook didn't care. He felt like the whole world had just tilted on its axis.
