Jennifer's POV
"You're going to get interviewed for Japan?" I asked Nicole in surprise. She nodded."I trust you don't do it for the views," she replied.
"Nah bro, it's not that. I'm more of a Korea person so I want to explore a different culture."
"Well, I want to delve deeper into a country I know a bit about. Let's compare notes with each other." We then started to give one another tips that we thought would help the other excel and get into Japan. Crashing facts into each other's heads, it was not long before I was called into the interview room. A wish of good luck was all I got before I strode into the room.
Interview (Jennifer)
Jennifer: KonnichiwaInterviewer: Konnichiwa! Do you know what that means?
Jennifer: yes, it's a double meaning. It means hello, but it also means good afternoon
Interviewer: wow, someone has done their research! Now, if you were to bring a Singaporean to Japan and recommend something for them to eat, what would it be and why?
Jennifer: I'll let them try wagashi. Wagashi is a kind of mochi that the Japanese make. I think it is something worth trying as a lot of Singaporeans do not know that wagashi exists. Anyway, I feel it is just a complex version of the simple, ball-like mochi the Singaporeans are used to.
Interviewer: Excluding anime-related places like a convention centre and an anime merchandise shop, where would you like to go if you had free time on one of the days?
Jennifer: I will go to the Imperial Castle as it is one of the most iconic places of Japan. There, I hope to wear a kimono and get photos taken as I explore the deep history of Japan.
Interviewer: I'd also like to explore that castle too! I'm speechless by your knowledge of Japan, but in a good way. Why don't you help me call Nicole in?
Nicole's POV
"Nicole," Jennifer called out. "It's your turn." I sprung from my seat to take part in the interview.
Interview (Nicole)
Nicole: good afternoon teacher!Interviewer: good afternoon Nicole. Your background says that you know a bit of Japan because you watch anime. What have you learnt about Japanese culture from anime?
Nicole: the school year ends in March and starts in April. It's perfectly alright to slurp your noodles in Japan and I researched further. This is accepted because it is a way of showing how delicious the noodles are. And there is a tatami flooring you must kneel on.
Interviewer: alright. What about three facts you learnt when researching from this trip?
Nicole: Sleeping at work in Japan is acceptable because that means you're hard at work. Japan is technically a green country because they use bicycles and trains to get around. And there are two different kinds of traditional dressing, a kimono or a yukata.
Interviewer: name me any one difference between the two.
Nicole: a kimono is used for formal occasions but yukatas are limited to summer festivals
Interviewer: Alright, that sets it! You have an extensive knowledge of Japan both in anime and outside anime. Good job.
Jennifer
Jennifer: how was it?Nicole; went well. Interviewer looks pleased.
Jennifer: haha looks like my crash course did save you. My interviewer looks pleased too.
Nicole: so we can go to Japan together?
Jennifer: Ofc bbg 💅 we can sit on the plane together, sleep together in the hotel, on the bus...OMG! Going to Japan together is going to be a reality 🥹
