They continued through the woods with Hermione's wand dimly illuminating their path. Fred, George and Ginny were nowhere to be found. They saw a group of teenagers huddled together near the path loudly. When they saw the four of them walking on the path, one of the girls quickly said "Où est Madame Maxime? Nous l'avons perdue —" (Where is Madame Maxime? We've lost her.)
"Er...what?" Said Ron.
"Nous ne l'avons pas vue. Restez proches les uns des autres et continuez à bouger." Céline stepped next to Harry to see the girl. (We didn't see her. Stay close to each other and keep moving.)
The girl looked at Céline, squinting her eyes before they widened. "Vous êtes Céline...?" She whispered. (You're Céline..)
"Vous devez vous dépêcher... Ils sont entrés dans les bois." Céline said not answering her question, her expression indifferent. She looked at her friends, "let's keep going..." They all looked between the girls and Céline and nodded. (You have to hurry. They've entered the woods.)
"What did they ask for?" Asked Ron once they were far enough away from the group.
"They were asking if we'd see Madame Maxine, I told them no and that they should keep moving." She answered.
"But they said your name..." Harry said hesitantly.
She looked up at him and then the others. Who were glancing over their shoulder to her. "She recognized who I was, that was it." She said trying not to sound like it triggered her a little. She felt Harry squeeze her hand in comfort. They said nothing else and continued.
"They couldn't have gone too far." Hermione said, looking around with her wand. Ron and Céline pulled out their wands and casted lumos. When Harry reached his back pocket he stopped. He let go of Celine's hand to check his other pocket. Then his jacket pockets.
"Ah, no, I don't believe it.... I lost my wand."
Their eyes widened, "you're kidding!" The three of them raised their wands high to illuminate more of the path, so Harry could look around, but there was nothing.
"Maybe you left it in the tent?" Ron suggested
"Or maybe it fell out of your pocket when we were running?" Céline suggested.
"Yeah" Harry said, "maybe..."
Just then they heard rustling behind them, they all whipped their heads around wands pointed, when a house elf appeared.
"Winky?" Said Harry in disbelief.
She was moving in a very odd manner. Apparently with great difficulty. It almost looked like someone invisible was holding her back.
"There are bad wizards about!" Winky squeaked out. "People high," she panted, "high in the air. Winky is getting out of the way."
She crossed the path with great struggle into the trees on the other side. They all just stared for a moment.
"That was odd.." said Ron.
"She probably didn't get permission to hide." Said Harry
"House elf's get a horrible deal." Hermione said with a huff. "It's slavery! That Mr. Crouch made her go to the very top of the stadium, which she was terrified of doing, and he's got her bewitched so that she can't run when the stampede starts trampling tents. Why doesn't anyone do anything about it?"
"Well aren't the elves happy?" Asked Ron. "You heard Winky at the top box, 'House elves are not supposed to have fun.' ... That's what she likes... being bossed around..."
Hermione glared at him, "it's people like you, Ron, who prop up rotten and unjust systems."
"I think it depends on the household. Telly seems happy in our home." Céline said somewhat quietly. Hermione's head whips to Céline in shock.
"You have a house-elf? How cou—-" Hermione was cut off from another loud bang at the edge of the woods.
"I think we should keep going, don't you?" Said Ron. They all nodded and set off again deeper into the woods. Harry kept searching his pockets, knowing his wand wasn't there.
They went deeper into the woods passing goblins cackling over some gold, and then a couple of Veela surrounded by a group of young wizards. They were saying over exaggerated things to make themselves seem better than the other person next to them. Ron almost became one of them, if it weren't for Hermione and Harry grabbing an arm and Céline pushing from behind.
Soon they were in the heart of the woods. So deep that it was quiet around them now. "I think we could stay here and wait now. We'll hear anyone come from a mile off." The words barely finished coming out when the blonde announcer emerged from the trees ahead of him.
"Hello Mr. Bagman-" Hermione started.
"Who's this?" He said, squinting at them trying to make out faces. "What are you all doing all the way out here?"
"Well... there was sort of a riot..." started Ron. Mr. Bagman look at him surprised.
"A what?"
"At the campsite.... Some people got a hold of a family of muggles." Harry spoke out this time. Mr. Bagman swore and Disapparated. They all just stared at the spot where he had just stood.
"Not exactly on top of things, is he?" Hermione frowned.
They all sighed and looked around them.
"I hope everyone is okay.." Hermione sighed again after a while.
"They'll be fine." Assured Ron.
"Imagine your dad catching Lucius." Harry said, as he sat next to Ron watching Ron's Krum figurine move around. Céline stiffens a little next to him. "You're dad always said he wanted to get something on him."
"That would wipe the smirk of Draco's face, all right." Ron chuckled to himself.
"I hope those muggles are alright though," Céline said, fiddling with her wand. "What if they can't get them down?"
"They will," Harry patted Celine's back, "they'll find a way. I'm sure."
"Who would do such a thing, though." Ron shook his head. "On a day the whole ministry of Magic is here too.—-" Ron was cut off by a sound of footsteps.
Hermione and Céline quickly looked over their shoulder to look behind them. The boys looked around also. It sounded like someone was staggering toward them. They all stood up with their wands ready. They listened to the uneven footsteps. Suddenly they came to a halt.
"Hello?" Called Harry.
Silence.
Céline could see very far in the darkness, but she felt someone there. She felt the hairs stand on the back of her neck.
"Who's there?" Harry called out again.
Then, in the deafening silence, came a voice unlike any they've heard in the woods. It shouted a spell.
"MORSMORDRE!"
