"Has everyone got a copy of Defensive Magical Theory by Wilbert Slinkhart?" She asked as soon as everyone was finished copying the board.

Some students murmured their responses.

"I think we'll try that again," she said. "When I ask you a question, I would you to reply with 'Yes, Professor Umbridge' or 'No, Professor Umbridge. So, does everyone have a copy of Definsive Magical Theory by Wilbert Slinkhart?"

"Yes, Professor Umbridge." The class chanted back again. Céline looked to Daphne, who looked slightly annoyed

"Good, please open to page five and read the first chapter, 'Basics for Beginners.' There will be no need to talk." Said Professor Umbridge as she walked back to her chair behind her desk.

Minutes go by in silence with only the sound of stifled yawns. Daphne nudged Céline's arm to get her attention. She looked over to her friend.

"Look." She mouthed pointing to someone. Céline looked over to see that Hermione was staring straight to Professor Umbridge with her hand sticking straight up and the Professor on the other hand was looking in a different direction, as if she couldn't see Hermione at all. Soon enough it caught most of the students attention and it wasn't until more than half of them were watching Hermione, that Professor Umbridge finally looked at her as since she had just noticed her.

"Did you have a question about the chapter, dear?" She asked with sweet smile.

"Not about the chapter, no." Hermione said.

"Well, we're just reading now, any questions that aren't about the chapter can be asked after class." Said the professor in her sickeningly sweet tone.

"I have a question about your course aims." Said Hermione.

"And you name?"

"Hermione Granger."

"Well, Miss Granger, I think the course aims are perfectly clear, if you just read them thoroughly." Professor Umbridge said.

"Well, I don't." Hermione said bluntly. "There's nothing on there about using defensive spells."

Céline looked at the board again, reading them over and saw that Hermione was right.

"Usung defensive spells? I can't imagine why you would need to use them." Said Professor with a bit of a high pitched laugh.

"Were not going use magic?" Blurted Ron.

"Student are to raise their hands if they wish to speak in my class. Mr.—" She said to him

"Weasley." He said and then raised his hand only for her to look back to Hermione, who had her hand raised again.

"Yes, Miss Granger?" She said in a slightly more irritable tone.

"Surely the whole point of Defense Against the Dark Arts class is to learn defensive spells." Hermione said.

"Are you a Ministry-trained educational expert?" The professor asked in the sweet tone again.

"No, but-"

"Well then, I'm afraid you are not qualified to decide what the 'whole point' of any class is. Wizards much older and cleverer than you have devised our new program of study. You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way —"

"What use is that?" said Harry loudly. "If we're going to be attacked it won't be in a —"

"Hand, Mr. Potter!" sang Professor Umbridge.

There were now many hands in the air waiting to ask a questions. Professor Umbridge looked over to Dean.

"Your name?" She asked.
