The next day was more lessons filled with more talk about O.W.Ls and loads of homework. By the end of lessons, Céline had hurried to leave her bag in her room before going to the Great Hall for dinner. She knew she needed to put something in her stomach before her detention with Professor Umbridge.
"Let's hope you're not in there for too long," said Daphne, taking a bit out of her roasted chicken. "We have four essays, we need to practice the Vanishing Charm for Professor McGonagall, learn a countercharm for Professor Flitwick, and we have to do that bowtruckle drawing for Professor Grumbly-Plank."
It was only the second day of school and the professors really piled on the workload. Céline thought she might have to stay up late to get some of them done and that she would also have to skip out on lunch the next day to work on it some more.
"But I'm sure you're fine with the Vanishing spell since transfiguration class is where you really excel. You got it down pretty well by the end of class." Daphne sighed.
"I can help you with it if you want." Céline said throwing a few grapes into her mouth.
"I would love you forever." Daphne said giving her a pleading look and a sweet smile. Céline giggled and nodded. She checked her watch and saw it was almost time for her to get to Professor Umbridge's office.
"I'd better go now." She said standing up from her seat. " I'll see you guys later." As soon as she left the Great Hall she saw Harry, also heading to detention.
"What do you think we'll have to do?" Céline asked nervously as they made their way.
"Lines probably. At least you have it for only tonight. I have it for the rest of the week." He said, slightly irritated.
"How did that happened?" She looked at him shocked.
"After you left class, I also said something similar and she sent me to Professor McGonagall with a slip that said I would have detention for the week. I have to get out of Fridays somehow, because we have quidditch tryouts."
"What are the chances she'll let you off?"
"Less than zero." He grumbled.
Right at five they knocked on the door to Umbridge's office.
"Come in." The professor said in a sugary voice.
As soon as they stepped in, Céline's eyes hurt from the decor. The surfaces of the furniture had been draped in lacy covers and cloths. There were several vases with dried flowers on top of doily's. On one of the walls was a collection of ornamental plates, each with a large cat dressed with a different bow around their necks.
"Good evening, Mr. Potter, Miss Everhart." She said.
They hadn't noticed the professor sitting there because she was a wearing a flowery set of robes that almost perfectly matched the cloth on her desk.
"Evening." They both said simultaneously.
"Well, sit down." She said pointed towards two tables on each end of her desk, both draped with the lacy cloth. On top of each table was a blank sheet of parchment. Céline made her way to one of the tables, while Harry hesitantly stayed in place.
"Er.. well." He said. Professor Umbridge? Er- before we start... I wanted to ask you a favor."
Professor Umbridge's eyes narrowed at him. "Oh? A favor?"
"You see, er— I'm on the quidditch team, and I'm suppose to be at tryouts for the new Keeper at five o'clock on Friday, and— and I was wondering if I could skip detention that night and do it another night... instead..."
