Tarini's Pov:
I stepped into Pratham's office, my heart racing with anticipation. I was supposed to visit him earlier, but I couldn't because of the events that took place in last week. The absolutely silent surroundings made me feel a little uneasy. I spotted him behind his desk.
"Hi, Pratham." I said, making him aware of my presence. He looked up, and greeted me back. "Please have a seat."
I sat in the chair opposite him, as he closed the laptop and removed his spectacles.
"I am sorry for postponing our meeting." I apologized to him, before continuing, "I was planning on meeting you for some time, but some or other things kept coming my way."
"Anything crucial?" He enquired, his expression serious.
"Actually, I lost the papers you handed over to me last time. I don't know how it happened, how could I get so careless with those–" I replied, worry and frustration evident in my tone, when he interrupted me midway.
"You don't need those papers anymore, Tarini." He passed a reassuring smile, and I frowned hearing his words. What does he mean?
"How can you say that? What about the case? How will I prove those people wrong?" I looked at him with confusion.
"There's no need to. You have already won the case." He answered, and for a moment I felt like I heard something wrong.
Reading my shocked reaction, he added, "The land case is over, and the property is rightfully yours, finally."
"Huh..how?" I was unable yo comprehend anything.
It was either due to shock, or I really didn't knew how to react. How the major problems of my life were getting sort on their own? How is it possible all of sudden?
"Call it a blessing or a miracle, Tarini, but yes, your fight to seek justice has completely ended. First, Himanshu Khurana got punished for his crimes, and now, those people withdrew the case on their own." He completed, and I felt like as if a heavy weight was being lifted off my shoulders.
My mind reeled as many emotions swirled inside me at the same time...relief, contentment, happiness, and above all, satisfaction. The satisfaction that I had fulfilled the promise I made to my mother.
Himanshu Khurana—the name, synonymous with betrayal, brought back a lot of memories, the same memories which I had long buried. My father and he were once business partners, their joint venture was a big and flourishing in the business. Everything was amazing in our life, our happy family, and our home which was filled with laughters and sense of security.
But, it all shattered when Khurana committed a massive fraud, forging my father's signatures on incriminating documents. Papa couldn't prove his innocence, and the consequences were devastating. His reputation was tarnished, he was thrown out of the company he built with hardwork and dedication, and all his assets were seized. Our home, once filled with warmth and love, was also snatched away.
