Tarini's Pov:

I stepped inside the bedroom, expecting to find Aviraj there. But the room was empty. I walked over to the cabinet in the corner and opened the middle drawer. I pulled out a file and, opening it, my heart began racing when I withdrew the papers.

My sight remained fixed on them as I sat on the bed. It was a reminder of the decision I had made, which would change the course of my life.

~

I stood before the mirror, adjusting the delicate jewelry Dadi had gifted me. The heavy saree weighed me down, but the intricate patterns and colors made me feel like a newlywed bride should. I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear, my eyes scanning my reflection one last time.

That's when I saw him standing behind me. My husband. His eyes locked onto mine in the mirror as the time stilled. I turned around, and his gaze traveled shamelessly over me, making me feel a flutter in my chest. I tried to brush it off as mere nervousness.

"Are you ready?" Aviraj asked, breaking the silence. Though his voice was low and deep, his demeanor hinted at a hidden turbulence.

My eyes traveled upward, meeting his. Even in formal attire, he looked like a sight to behold. I expected a compliment, a smile, or at least a nod of appreciation. But he said nothing. His expression remained neutral, almost indifferent. I felt a tiny pinch of disappointment, but I pushed it aside.

I hummed, trying to fill the awkward silence. "You should also go and change."

"Dadi had sent that for you." I pointed to the kurta lying on the bed, the one matching my saree that he was supposed to wear for the function. A pooja was organized for our happy married life, and muh dikhaai ceremony was planned for the evening.

He shrugged, not liking the idea. "I'm okay."

Why does he seem so uninterested in everything? I wondered if he hadn't come to terms with the reality of us being married.

"But Dadi-" I began, but he cut me off mid-sentence.

"I am only going for the sake of making a presence, Tarini. Let's proceed downstairs, I have to leave for the office also after that."

His tone was matter-of-fact, without any warmth or emotion. I felt a pang in my chest, but I reminded myself that he was a busy person. He had already missed a few days of work for the wedding functions.

"Okay." I nodded, trying to keep my expression neutral.

I saw him walking towards me, and felt confused when he stopped in front of me.

"What happened?" I asked, while his gaze scanned the dressing table, probably searching something. Picking up a small box, he opened it and I understood what he was going to do.
