Abhyudit finishes reviewing the file, noting some points on the final page before closing the folder. He looks up, his attention drifting to Shirina, who had been watching him with a quiet patience.
"Thank you for bringing this over." His tone was sincere, and she nods in response.
"Is there anything else, sir?" she asks, her gaze meeting his. The innocence shining through her eyes strikes a chord within him. There was something endearing about her, a quality that makes him want to put her at ease.
"Nothing for now. We are already done with the presentation. Rest, I will be heading over a new project from next week." He clears his throat, his voice taking on a more formal tone. "You must have heard about the upcoming collaboration between Sisodia Industries and Mehrotra Group."
Shirina's expression falters for a moment as she processes his words. Was it good news? Probably not. Not for her, at least. However, she quickly regains her composure.
"Collaboration with Mehrotra's? I'm not aware of any, sir," she replies, her tone indifferent.
She had seen her father at S.I. once, but she had no idea what he was doing there. And she didn't care to find out.
"Really? I thought your father would have mentioned it to you," he says, his voice low and measured. He statement gives away curiosity, and she fists her hands, not liking the direction where the conversation was going.
"No, he didn't," Shirina denies firmly. "Is it something important?"
"It is," Abhyudit replies briefly, his words hanging in air like a challenge, heavy with implication.
The silence that followed was palpable. His expression remains unreadable, but his gaze seems to bore into her's, searching for any hint of deception. The tension which had earlier dissipated to some extent returns, making the air thick with unforseen expectations.
"That's all for today, Shirina. You are free to go." He leans back on his chair, finally dismissing her. His thoughts continue to simmer, hidden beneath the mask of professionalism.
It was clear to him from her reaction that she was unaware of the alliance proposed. He concludes her father hasn't informed her about anything. Not wanting to broach the topic on his own, he gives up, ending the conversation.
Shirina gathers her belongings, her hands shaking slightly as she stands up. "Have a nice day, sir," she says, her eyes avoiding his, though aware of his stare on her.
She makes her way out of the office, and the door closes behind her.
Abhyudit lets out a soft sigh. She was oblivious to the impending change in her life, and he wonders how she will react when she finds out.
