It had been almost three hours since I stepped out of his cabin. He hadn't summoned me back or handed me a termination letter, which was a relief.

Atul had returned to my desk, giving me some files to review. I had been poring over them, trying to focus, but my gaze kept drifting towards the door of his cabin.

Every time someone entered or exited, my heart skipped a beat. It felt like I was doing the job of security guard rather than an assistant. But I couldn't help because of the constant negative thoughts running in my mind.

I chided myself for my behaviour, which was only creating a trouble for me. It could be possible that he had opted to ignore that incident.

What if he wasn't as bad as people made him out to be? I attempted to persuade myself to look on the brighter side.

"Abhyudit sir is calling you to his cabin with Saxena's file." A staff member informed me, coming to my desk.

My fleeting positivity evaporated instantly. Why did he want to see me?

'Maybe because you are his assistant now,' My conscience mocked me, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that he didn't like me.

It's not that I like him 'a lot'. In fact, I also don't like him—at all. He was equally to blame for that stupid encounter, but now the tables had turned.

I couldn't afford to lose my job on the very first day. It would be such a shame.

Taking a deep breath for what felt like the nth time since morning, I rose and walked to his cabin. I kept trying to push aside my doubts on the way.

I knocked on the door, and he called me in. Stepping in, I stood before him, clutching the file in my hand.

"Did you go through the file, Shirina?" he asked, glancing at me briefly before turning his attention to his laptop. Is it necessary for him to always sound this dominant?

"Yes, sir," I replied without stuttering, managing to sound confident.

He asked me a series of questions relating to that, which I answered satisfactorily. Thankfully, despite my anxiousness, I had gone through the files with concentration. It paid off.

"Hmm. So your mind is also as sharp as your tongue, I see." He finally looking at me, as my head snapped in his direction.

'Just like your memory,' I added my reply in my mind. His expression was enigmatic, but I detected a hint of amusement in his voice. Was it real?

"About that day..." I began, not getting what excuse to give because I had none.

"I am sorry for my behavior," I said finally.

He raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips in response. This was all I could do to close the matter. After all, my job was at stake.

"You should be," he said, his tone cold, and added, "I will dismiss that as the first mistake you made unknowingly. But remember, you might never get a second chance."
