"We're almost there!" Kanae said, still holding hands with Mitsuri as they made it to the train station just in time. The girls boarded the train and sat at the very back, catching their breath before bursting into laughter. Mitsuri leaned her head back, giggling, and Kanae joined in, laughing as well.
Mitsuri couldn't believe he had been there, though a part of her wasn't surprised. It was both embarrassing and frustrating how he always seemed to have his eyes on her. But that was the least of her worries now. All she could think about was Iguro—the way he had held her, so gentle yet firm. She could still feel his gaze on her while they danced, how he guided her body to move in perfect sync with his. The ghost of his touch lingered on her skin—his cold fingers sending shivers across her body, and his warm breath on her neck, like a firm but tender caress, making her react in ways she never expected. It was as though they were meant for each other.
She glanced out the window, seeing her reflection, replaying the moment over and over in her mind, forgetting that Kanae was sitting right next to her.
Kanae finished texting Sanemi and looked at Mitsuri. She recognized that look in her friend's eyes—she was falling in love. "Iguro, huh? You like mysterious guys," she teased with a giggle. "You two look so cute together! It's like you complement each other. His dark, rock vibe with your soft pink girl energy—it works! I totally approve."
Mitsuri blushed intensely and quickly turned to her. "Really? You think so?"
"Hell yeah! And that dance? It was spicy! Sanemi and I low-key bet how far you two would go, and trust me, it looked like you were about to kiss! Are you going to finally break up with your boyfriend and go for Iguro?" Kanae asked, hopeful for a "yes."
"I can't... I have nowhere else to go..."
Kanae placed a comforting hand on top of hers and smiled warmly. "Shinobu and I are moving out of our parents' place soon. Why not move in with us? You can finally be happy, and if things go well, maybe you and Iguro can start something real."
"I'm not sure he feels anything for me. Besides, I don't even know what I feel for him. It's strange... It's like my soul aches for him, like we've met before... I can't explain it. We just met, but I feel like—"
"You love him," Kanae finished for her, her expression turning soft and sad.
Mitsuri looked away, and before she realized it, tears welled up in her eyes. She turned to the window, biting her lip. "I don't know... I'm scared to trust love again. I don't want to be lied to... again." She gripped her knees, trying to hold back the tears.
Kanae pulled her into a tight hug. "You can't run away from love, Mitsuri. When you love someone, it's not easy to let go. Your boyfriend isn't good for you, and you know you don't want to spend the rest of your life miserable. Iguro seems like a really good guy—he's always been polite to me, and I can tell he likes you. If your souls connected that fast, then take things slow, get to know each other."
Mitsuri smiled softly, taking in her friend's words. "Maybe you're right. Maybe it's time to stand up for myself and take control of my life," she said, wiping her tears away.
"Good! Now, about leaving your boyfriend and moving out... maybe the boys can help. If I ask Sanemi, he'd say yes, and Iguro wouldn't hesitate either," Kanae said, already texting Sanemi.
Everything was happening fast for Mitsuri. Moving out and starting a new life felt like the right decision, but what scared her most was how to break up with her boyfriend. As the girls went over the details, it seemed like they could afford a room with Mitsuri's current income. They made plans to meet up with Shinobu the next day to look at apartments together.
Kanae was the first to get off the train, saying goodbye at her stop.
Mitsuri arrived home to a dark apartment. Her boyfriend wasn't there yet, and she sighed in relief, grateful she made it back before he did. She entered her room, lying back on the bed as memories of the night flooded her mind. She recalled the way Iguro had looked at her with those intense, beautiful eyes, the subtle but intoxicating scent of his cologne, and how effortlessly they had moved together, as if their bodies were one.
Her right hand glided slowly over her waist, tracing the path where his fingers had once lingered, their touch still burning in her memory. Her left hand gently caressed her neck, where his breath had warmed her skin, sending a soft shiver down her spine. A wave of guilty pleasure rippled through her body, intensifying with each remembered sensation.
As she stared at the ceiling, her thoughts were consumed by him. What did she truly feel for Iguro? They had just met, yet the connection between them was undeniable—deeper than anything she had ever experienced. It wasn't just a passing crush; it was something far more intense, something she craved. The guilt of her relationship surfaced briefly, but it felt hollow now—a convenience rather than love.
What she desired, what her body longed for, was more. She wanted more from Iguro.
Mitsuri glanced at the photo Kanae had sent of her and Iguro. Zooming in on his face, she admired his smile, his eyes. She thought about Kanae's suggestion of moving in with her and Shinobu. She looked around her room, trying to figure out how she would move everything.
Tomorrow, she would meet with her friends to discuss future plans. But the one thing that weighed on her the most was how to leave her boyfriend.
Later that night as Mitsuri got into comterable clothes and got ready for the night, she heard a loud bang that seemed to be the freezer door slame. She quickly opened the door and popped her head out, seeing her boyfriend with a frozen meat against his left shoulder in pain. She took a few steps out her bedroom door and approached him mid-way. "What happened to you?"
Her boyfriend looked at her with an angry expression and walked past her. "Fucking Slut. I should have never dated you from the start. You want to play fucking games? Alright, let's play fucking games". Her heart sank as he entered his bedroom, leaving her standing in shock.
