_____________

"One can only dream... is what I keep telling myself... I have always dreamed of being a wife, but now knowing my life has shortened due to the fact that I awakened my mark, my lifespan has been cut down to only 6 years left? The idea of marriage is now out of the question, including having children. How should I feel? Happy that I've gotten stronger to protect master, or heartbroken to the fact that my dreams have been crushed. Who am I kidding... I knew my dreams of finding a husband were too good to be true once I'd decided to join the Demon Slayer Corps. I just..."

Mitsuri looked down at her shaking hands, tears dropping one by one onto the back of them as everyone listened to Amane's words from the master. Mitsuri stood there, silently crying to herself without the other Hashira noticing, but Obanai noticed in the sudden change in her expression and couldn't help but understand deeply how much it hurt to hear that she wouldn't live past 25. Only 19 and with 6 years left, it felt as though life was taken away especially so young. Without being able to move from place, she found the strength and to kept her head up, even though it exposed her puffy eyes, she tried her very best to focus on the meeting. Obanai slowly placed his right hand on the tatami floor, helping Kaburamaru to slither down and make his way onto her thighs and rub her hand for comfort. Without looking down, she rubbed the top of his head to distract her from her thoughts.

Later that night as the meeting came to an end, Mitsuri took her leave, leaving everyone stunned by her silence. They all quickly turned their heads to Iguro, who had nothing to say while looking at the leaves falling from the tree far out into the garden. Trying to wrap his head around the fact that her life was short, it never accord to him what would happen if he survived the battle with Muzan and what he wanted. He'd always imagined himself dying to finally cleanse himself from his own past, but the thought of his families' deaths weighing down on him as if it were his fault never led him to imagine what would happen if the tables were turned and he lived. He sat there wondering if he would have the chance to tell Mitsuri how he truly felt about her.

___________
Days later

After Tanjiros' training has been completed by both Obanai and Mitsuri and he has headed his way to training with Gyomai up in the mountains, Obanai finished his training with the rest of the trainees, and after showering his day away, he got into his black  kimono and made his way over to Mitsuri's home, which was not too far from his house. It was a chilly night, and the moon was at its fullest. The trees have finally shed their last leaves as it invites winter. As Obanai finally made it to her place and walked to the back of her house where her room was and noticed Mitsuri sitting at their usual spot where they view her small garden. Sitting at the edge of the engawa, she looked up at the moon, holding onto her black tea in her light pink night yukata and her hair down and unbraided.

"Ms. Kanroji" Iguro approached as he also looked at the moon.

"Iguro! I didn't expect you to be out so late. I thought you'd be home sleeping on your time off." She greeted him with a smile and looked back at the moon.

"Sitting out here always calms me down when there is too much on my mind." She looked down at her tea while gently rubbed the rim of the cup with her thumb and holding back her tears.

As Obanai sat next to her, he noticed her puffy red eyes and the same depressed expression on her face from earlier. He could tell that she's been crying since the meeting, and all he wanted to do was hold her, tell her that no matter what, he'll be there for her, even if it's all he could do.

"Hey-" Obanai started.

"Iguro, tell me, Am I worth being with?" Cutting him off midsentence as she continued to stare down into her cup.

Confused as to why she would ask that question, he replied with one word, "always.". To him, she was everything; no man on earth could treat her better than the way he could, the way she should be treated. In his eyes, she was a queen, his light, his love. He would kill for her and die for her.

Quickly realized his response she met his gaze. "Did he say—always?" She thought to herself as her cheeks turned two shades pinker, then it used soft pink.

The two sat in silence, Mitsuri hid her facial expression while twiddled her fingers and bit her bottom lips nervously. "You don't mean that... why would you want to be with a woman like me? An unusual hair color... stronger than the average man and eats more than them on top of that. No one would ever want me." She looked at the leaves on the ground and said the very thing that traumatized her. "He's right... only a bear, boar, or cow would marry me." She curled her legs up and hid her face between them.

Obanai placed his hand on her shoulder to stop her from saying anything else that wasn't true, not realizing how close he was. "Kanroji.. tell me who told you that; I'll gladly dispose of them." She turned her head and looked at his different colored eyes. So mesmerized by them, she didn't realize how close he was until the wind blew his natural scent her way. She gave him a soft, warm smile and looked back at the moon.

"The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" She said as her eyes reflected the moon's light.

Obanai could stop staring at her. He didn't need to look up at the sky to see beauty when it was sitting in front of him. Without overthinking, without a doubt, Obanai gently placed his hand on her left cheek, directing her view onto him. The light of the dim candle in her room lit him in all the right angles, and with his eyes looking into hers, he could not wait a moment longer to express his love for her. With not much time in their lives, there's no way to tell if they would live past their fight with Muzan; he didn't have any time left. Obanai rested his forehead against hers and looked into hers.

Nervous to say the words, Obanai took a breather and tried again. "Kan-... Mitsuri, you are the beauty that shines bright, so don't shed another tear.".

Mitsuri eyes stayed glued to his and his to hers, and without realizing the small gap that once was between them was gone. With only his wrapping between them, Mitsuri slightly closed her eyes half way, focusing on the spot where his lips hid behind his thin wrapping. She gently tugged on the top part of it to reveal his lips, but Obanai stopped her from revealing his biggest fears.

"Obanai, please... kiss me." Mitsuri begged for more of his love, tears shedding down. Obanai was stuck between the love of his life and the fear of rejection. He looked away, leaving her speechless. "I-I can't.".
