Two weeks later

The days have gotten colder, and training the trainees has also gotten a bit harder with the cold. On her one day off, Mitsuri wrote her once a week later to Obanai, but to be expected, Obanai hasn't written back. Making it her final attempt, she nervously wrote her letter with shaking hands and tears shedding.

'Dear Mr. Iguro, how are you? Today my students finished their training and will soon head over to your place. I'll be swinging by Shinobus Place for a checkup. Nothing serious though. I've gotten more of black tea here, so hopefully one of these days we can drink some together at the garden. Hope your well.' Kanroji Mitsuri

Mitsuri finished writing her letter to Obanai, reading it one last time. She placed it down and let her emotions take over, not realizing her teardrops dripping onto the letter and smudging her name on the bottom. She noticed her smudge name and decided to leave it as is, and after a few minutes of the ink drying up, she folded the letter and attached it to her crow Urara leg. Before she sent her off, Mitsuri asked Urara, "Has he read any of her letters?" to which Urara replied, "He just takes them and puts them in his pocket," then flew off.

Mitsuri watched her crow fly off into the sky and nervously bit the skin off her bottom lip. She wondered if she was being too pushy or annoying to Obanai, but she didn't want to let what happened that night go; she wanted to see him again; to be with him.

'How long has it been since we last laid eyes upon each other? Why are you avoiding me? Do you hate me?''

Her mind was thinking of an infinite amount of ways how that night was her fault, how she pushed him to the corner, how she could have forced him to be with her, but one thing stayed on her mind. If he didn't want it, he wouldn't have kissed her. In the back of her mind, she knew there was something even more to that night. Would they have gone all the way if she didn't ask him that question? Would they have been an item if she'd stayed quiet? Or would she have lived happily for the time they had left on this earth, not knowing the man she loved? Dying without knowing a single thing about him other than his favorite food was vinegar-soaked kelp, watching live-amezaiku, poetry, and just hanging with her. She closed her sliding door and placed her hand on her forehead. Kaburamaru slithers near her feet, indicating he would like to go with her. "Don't worry, Kaburamaru; I'll take you with me to visit Shinobu. Hopefully Shinobu can help with this headache, she said as she put on her white hat and headed out.
______
Shinobu's Place

Mitsuri explained to Shinobu exactly everything that happened that day over some tea, how she felt hearing the news about her lifespan, her night talk with Obanai, and everything that led up to it. Shinobu finished her tea and placed her cup down, pouring more for her and Mitsuri. She stood quietly, understanding the situation, and tried to understand Obanais actions.

"It's strange. First, Kaburamaru is with you and not with him and never came to get him back. Second, we all know how Iguro is in love with you; it's obvious. But the idea of his scar traumatized him and clouded his love for you. I'd thought he'd moved on from it by channeling his anger into killing demons, but guess not." Shinobu sipped her tea and looked at Mitsuri. Her skin was even paler than usual, her left leg was nervously shaking, and her eyes weren't as wide open as usual. Shinobu needed to know more details about their night for Mitsuri sake.

"Kanroji, may I examine you? Just to check if everything's ok." Shinobu placed her tea cup down on the table.

"Oh yes, of course! I actually wanted to see if you can help with this headache I have.".

"How long have you been feeling this way?" Shinobu placed two fingers on her neck and examined her heartbeat.

Mitsuri waited till she was done and thought about how long it was. She couldn't help but revisit the memories of that night and how much she craved for his touch "about a week." She said, blushing and tearing.

Shinobu placed her hand on her right shoulder and brought her into a comfort hug. "There there, Kanroji, I know all will play out right. He loves you too much to let you go. I think the news of your life and your confession just was a lot for him in one day is what I want to believe, but men are, pardon my language, stupid. They get all confused and weird when a girl confesses their feelings." Shinobu said with a small, angry vain on the top of her head.

Mitsuri listened and looked down on her hand. "Have you experienced this same problem?"

Shinobu placed her hand on top of her thighs and clutched her pants, giving a fake smile to hide her sadness. "Yes, I have. I told a man how I felt. He's dull, emotionless; he told me that I shouldn't be wasting my time with someone like him. He felt as though he wasn't like me; whatever that meant.".

Mitsuri looked at Shinobus with a gentle smile and sad eyes. She knew who she was talking about but couldn't come out to ask. Now that she remembered, she hasn't seen Tomioka and Shinobu together in a while, and Shinobu wasn't one to express her emotions so openly or her life story. Just like Obanai, she only knew Shinobus liked and disliked, but nothing about her past or how she got to where she is now. She felt like a terrible friend to her and Obanai.

"Do you think it's wrong for me to ask something so personal?" She asked, twiddling her thumb.

"Well... you guys did have sex, so I think you guys are definitely past friendships. I think it was more than the question, but remembering everything that happened. Between us, what his family put him through was terrible. I won't expose more than that, but be patient. When he's ready, he'll tell you.".

Shinobu's words brightened Mitsuri's spirit and gave her hope once more. She knew she needed to speak to Obanai once more to apologize for forcing anything against his will, but she also knew Obanai owed her an apology for how he acted. It's been a while since she was able to smile again, and her visit with Shinobu gave her the hope to face him.

"By the way, your running a temperature of 100.4. It explains why you have a headache and your paler complexion. Are you fatigued in anyway?"

"Now that you mentioned it, I have!"

"Kanroji, I do not want to put anything in your head, but I must ask this. Have you gotten your monthly yet? If not, please keep a close eye for it. You and Iguro had unprotected sex, and hopefully this is just a normal fever, though if you haven't received it after that moment, it could potentially become a positive pregnancy. Even if you guys did not fully go all the way, you don't know if he did release a little during it. Again, I do not want to scare you; that's why I need you to look out for it. Is that understood?" Shinobu said it in a serious tone. Mitsuri took a big swallow and nodded.

"May I head home and rest instead of staying here? I have a lot to think about," Mitsuri asked as she sat there, overwhelmed with that information and trying to keep it together.

Shinobu looked at her with worried eyes and a sign. "Of course. Please hurry home; it looks like heavy rain will come down soon. I don't want you to get caught in the rain in the winter.".

"Thank you. I'll see you again for some tea, my place." Mitsuri got up to take her leave.

"Of course, take care.".

Leaving Shinob's place, Mitsuri thought about everything that was said and the possibility of a pregnancy. Mitsuri couldn't help but internally panic from the idea of it being possible, especially with someone who she loved from the beginning, her best friend, but his silence made her anxiety even more intense. Rain began to fall within minutes as she got caught in the middle of it. She removed her haori and used it to shield herself and Kaburamaru from the cold weather and icy rain that didn't help her condition. All she could focus on was getting herself and Kaburamaru home safe, but her fever worsened. She could feel herself slowing down, and her vision began to blur. Without realizing it, she stepped onto black ice, causing her to slip and fall. Unable to get up, Mutsuri slowly started to pass out from the freezing cold weather. Kaburamaru slithered out and covered her forehead with his body to provide heat while nervously looking around for anyone. Before she fully fainted, she heard Kaburamaru hiss loudly to a burry figure running her way.

"Kanroji!!!"

"Iguro... is that?"

A/N - I would like to clarify something I didn't mention that my husband just made me realize 🤣
On top of the disclaimer I had forgotten to add that these couple of chapters are more of a Prologue to the actual story. It's apart of the story as and it's helps the plot! I hope you can be a bit more patient for when I release chapter 1 💖🥹thank you so much and sorry for the confusion!
