As Iguro paid for their drinks, they both stepped out into the night. The sky was dark, and a chill filled the air at 7 p.m. Neither wanted to part, but his shift was starting soon, and Mitsuri had a paper to finish. The looming separation tugged at both their hearts.

"Hey, I'm going to break up with him this week," Mitsuri said, her voice shaky with nerves. "The reason I haven't yet is... well, if I tell him now, it'll be awkward for a week. But if I do it the day I move out, he can't make a scene in front of everyone."

Iguro stared up at the night sky, contemplating what was best for her. In his mind, he could see it clearly—he, standing by her side, proudly her new boyfriend. A smile crept onto his lips. "Tell him on the day you leave. That way, he can't hurt you. But if he tries anything during the week, call me, okay? I'll come for you." His smile was gentle, protective.

A smile of relief spread across her face, as if a weight had been lifted. As they leaned in for a goodbye hug, Iguro whispered close to her ear, "Get home soon, it's going to rain pretty bad tonight. I'll see you soon." His voice sent chills down her spine. She smiled as she watched him disappear into the night. She felt safe, reassured. She was in love.

When Mitsuri got back to her apartment, she noticed something was off immediately—a pair of unfamiliar red heels by the front door, and a trail of clothes leading to her ex-boyfriend's room. Her chest tightened, and panic set in. She wasn't ready for this. Should she leave? Hide in her room until it was time to go?

As her thoughts raced, she noticed her bedroom door was slightly open. Her stomach dropped. When she entered, her heart broke. Everything was gone—her furniture, her belongings. A pile of her clothes lay in the center of the room, drenched in whiskey. Her laptop was discarded and her jewelry scattered across the floor.

Frantically, she searched for her cats. They were her only comfort in this nightmare, but they were nowhere to be found. Desperation overtook her, and she flung open his bedroom door, only to be met with a scene she couldn't have imagined in her worst nightmares.

There, lying naked in bed with him, was Misaki Iguro. Her smirk, sharp and cruel, made Mitsuri's blood run cold. She stood frozen in the doorway, her body paralyzed. Her ex-boyfriend, unfazed, lay sprawled out with a cigarette in hand, the room reeking of liquor and smoke.

The walls closed in on her. Every ounce of strength drained from her body as the realization hit—he had taken everything from her. In a voice trembling with pain, Mitsuri demanded to know where her cats were. He laughed, casually claiming they had run out when he opened the door. But she knew he was lying. Her cats would never leave her side willingly, not with him around.

She felt sick. Her beloved pets were lost in the cold, rainy night.

It was 1 a.m. by the time Iguro found her. He had been running for hours, his heart in his throat, searching the rain-soaked streets for any sign of her. He couldn't believe what had happened. She'd been wandering in the cold rain for six hours, searching for her cats, kicked out of her own home with nothing but her soaked clothes.

Finally, he saw her. Curled up on the wet sidewalk, knees pulled to her chest, a small jacket barely covering her head. Iguro's heart shattered as he stood before her, panting from the run. Mitsuri's head slowly peeked out from under the jacket, and to his relief, one of her cats was nestled in her arms.

"I could only find one of them," she sobbed, her voice broken. "I can't find the others, Iguro..."

Her face was streaked with tears, her eyes swollen and red from hours of crying. Iguro knelt down, his own breath shaky, unable to contain his anguish. She had been out here, alone and suffering, and he hadn't been there to protect her.

"Why—why didn't you call me earlier?!" he shouted, his voice cracking. "You could've gotten hypothermia and died!"

Mitsuri's pained eyes met his. "I didn't want to bother you at work..."

Without another word, Iguro took off his jacket and wrapped it around her, his hands trembling. It smelled faintly of cigarettes and his cologne, but it was warm, and it enveloped her like a protective cocoon. "You're not a bother," he whispered, his voice raw with emotion. "I'm your-... It's my job to be there for you and I failed you."

The rain poured down harder, drenching them both, but Iguro didn't care. He pulled her close, his arms wrapped tightly around her fragile frame, shielding her. He had never felt so helpless, so enraged at the cruelty she'd endured.

"You'll stay with me," he said firmly, his voice a mix of anger and protectiveness. "Until we figure something out."

As he called for a taxi, his hands never left her, holding on to her as if letting go would mean losing her forever. The rain kept falling, but in that moment, he vowed that no one would ever hurt her again.
