____________Mitsuris Room
Dark clouds filled the evening sky with heavy rain, loud thunder with icy winds. The room was quiet, dark and cold. Mitsuri remained asleep in her bed still fighting her fever while Obanai sat next to her wishing he could take it all away from her. He wore a dark blue Nagagi kimono that was lending to him while waiting for his clothes to dry. The cold winds knocked out the power, leaving them in a dark house, to which was only Mitsuri, himself, and a female Kakushi in the house. Obanai sat by her side with his back faced her bedroom door and as he removed his face wrapping. As long as he remained in the dark, letting his guard down and revealing his scars away from anyone but Mitsuri, he was fine.
Admiring her beauty killed him from within for what he had done to her, and blaming himself for her fever and not speaking to her the next day after their last time together. He meant to come sooner, but he didn't know what right words to say to her. He knew he was a coward, stupid for leaving her that night when she needed him, an idiot for not opening his heart the same way she did when that's all he ever wanted. He cursed himself for what he did and to the ghost of his family. He hated it—the way they still had a hold on him from the dead. Remembering that event over and over in his head, never to forget. He didn't want her to know or anyone. The only two people who knew were the former Flame Hashira and his cousin, who he wished was dead. He leaned forward and caressed her cheek, feeling her temper high.
'Mitsuri, I wish you didn't love me in this condition. I wish I could be the perfect man for you, the man you've been looking for, but I'm broken, mentally and physically. Why would you ever love someone like me? '
He thought to himself while watching her sleep.
A faint knock echoed through her room as one of the sliding doors opened. It was the female Kakushi who brought in some tea for them and also Obanai's dried clothes that got wet from the heavy rain. "Serpent Harshira, I bring some tea to warm you and for Ms. Kanroji. I also bring your dried clothes, some candles, and matches. It seems as though the heavy rain has caused the light to go out. Will there be anything I can assist you with?".
"No. Leave us". Obanai dismissed her quickly to avoid her seeing his face.
"Yes. Soup for Ms. Kanroji will be out shortly by Shinobu's orders."
"Orders?" he questioned.
"Yes. It seems as though Ms. Kanroji has been having a fever for a couple of days now with headaches. She was told to stay home and rest till then and hold on training till her fever goes down." She explained.
"That is all. Leave us." As she left, he grabbed the tray of tea and brought it next to her. "Kanroji. Wake up".
After a few calls, Mitsuri opened her eyes, trying to adjust her eyes.
"Iguro? What are you doing here?" She said as she got up and her wet rag fell down from her forehead. "How did I?" She looked around the room and realized she was in her room. She held her head in her hand and tried to adjust her eyes.
"You collapsed outside on your way home. I saw you from afar and brought you home." Obanai poured her some tea and handed it to her. Her eyes widen as she realizes his scar. She took the tea and smiled. She was happy to see his full face and wearing the Nagagi she picked out for him for moments like this or any sleep overs.
"I'm glad, the Nagagi fit you. The color goes well with your skin tone." She complimented him on his looks and quickly drank her tea as she was tried to find anything to say to avoid the topic.
"Yeah Thank you, your Kakushi offered it to me and insisted that I wore it while she got my uniform washed and dried." He watched her.
"Please, drink some too." She reached the tea pot to pour him a cup but his voice startled her and pulled back.
"No, I rather you drink all of the tea to help with your fever." He grabbed the pot and pour her another cup instead.
"Iguro, I know your cold, so please, have just one cup."
Confused by her observation "How can you tell?" He sat still and controlled his jitters to prove her wrong.
"Well..." She pointed and looked towards her cleavage. "Because Kaburamaru is still with me, and I'm sure you're not warm enough for him," she stated as Kaburamaru poked his head from between her breasts.
"kabu-get-over-here-NOW!" Obanai face was extremely red as he pointed his fingers to the spot next to him like an angry parent. Kaburamaru rejected him and hissed "not until you apologized to Ms. Kanroji" in snake language that only Obanai could understand.
Mitsuri looked at both of them as they both hissed at each other like two siblings fighting each other for attention. She giggled at the love those two have for one another and admired their connection. She cupped her hand to help guided Kaburamaru out and kissed the top of her head. "You kept me warm when I needed it and comforted me in my time of need. I'd say you're the strongest one of all of us; Iguro's lucky to have a strong brother by his side who will one day save him." Kaburamaru licked her chin and put a smile on her face.
Iguro looked at them interacting with one another and felt a sense of loneliness. A rare feeling for him to experience, but not one he's keen on or unfamiliar with. He reached over and cupped her right cheek, bringing her focus towards him. Mitsuri looked into his heterochromia eyes as he looked into her green eyes. Unable to contain her emotions, tears dripped down her face one by one uncontrollably as it fell down his hand. She pulled her face back and whipped her tears quickly. Kaburamaru slithered down onto her thigh and away from them, knowing what'd happen next.
Mitsuri looked down at her hands, trying to avoid eye contact. It wasn't easy for her to be this close to him considering it's been two weeks since they last saw each other, and both unable to bring themselves to apologize first. She had missed her best friend, and on the other side, she yearned for him. She wanted him to look into her eyes, run his fingers on her skin, and feel his warm lips. As she tried to gather the strength to speak first, Obanai spoke.
"Kanroji, I'm sorry for all that I've put you through. The topic of my scar isn't something I enjoy speaking about or showing, and whenever anyone asks about it, it freaks me out. I never wanted to scare you with my past, and trying to explain this is already giving me anxiety. I'm not perfect, Mitsuri, and I'm not worth your time, at times I feel as though loving you from afar might be" Mitsuri placed her fingers gently against his lips to stop him from saying anymore. Mitsuri understood that the topic of his family wasn't something he was comfortable explaining, but facing her and exposing his scar was enough for her. All she wanted was him back by her side.
"It's okay; I'm just glad you're here." Her smile tugged on his heartstrings. Why was he still pushing her away after he rehearsed over and over in his head what he would say? He was lying about loving from afar; he definitely wanted her next to him and he wasn't scared anymore of her boyfriend; even if it was for a short time, he wanted her all to himself. He gently grabbed her hand and kissed the palm of her hands, looking into her eyes.
His eyes always had a way of pulling Mitsuri closer to him; his eyes were so beautiful. He wanted her; he wanted to finish what they started, but not till they figured out what they were.
"Obanai, do you want me?" They're lips inches away from one another.
"More than anything," he gently cupped her face .
Mitsuri smiled and pulled back from his gentle rough hands. As much as she wanted him, she didn't want a repeat of last time. She was scared he would leave her, abandon her once more, and this time the image of him gone from her life haunted her. She was fighting with her mental and physical self and didn't know what was the right decision. She slightly touched her stomach and remembered what Shinobu said about potentially being pregnant. Should she tell him, would that scare him as well? She was lost.
Obanai looked down at her and knew what she was feeling. He knew he fucked up, but this time he wasn't going to let go. "Mitsuri," he gently lifted her chin up to meet his eyes once more. "Be mine, and this time, I promise I won't let you go." He gently lead her face close to him without breaking eye contact and locked fingers with hers. "Be mine, and I'll show you what it feels to be loved, to know how to be touched the way you like, to hear 'I love you' every day and night. And when we beat Muzan, I'll make sure to marry you even if our life is short."
Mitsuri s eyes filled with tears as her wish came true. She wrapped her around his neck, not breaking eye contact as well. It was all she ever wanted, which is why she joined in becoming a slayer. To find a husband who would love her and to never let her go. With a gentle kiss, Obanai had his answer. She was his future wife and he was the husband she looked for.
