Upon hearing her word, his gaze did not shift away from her. Lisa kept staring at her as if he had never seen the paper on the coffee table. He did not question her, nor did his expression change much.
Noticing his gaze on her, Jennie's heart tightened. She turned around, pushed his arm from her, and coldly said, "You've been hiding this for so long. You should know that one day I'll find out the truth. You should understand why I want to get divorced. I don't want to say too much. Just sign the divorce papers that I've printed out."
With that said, Jennie wanted to stand up. She couldn't stand the smell of Lisa that she liked. She was afraid that she would not have the heart to be ruthless. Since she's already talking, it would be easier for her to be direct with him.
Lisa didn't move. He just stared at her. Even when she stood up, his gaze still glued to her face. It was as if he wanted to see from her expression how determined she had been.
When Jennie turned back to look at him, Lisa shifted his gaze and looked at the divorce agreement on the coffee table.
"You thought about it for a month, but in the end, you still made such a choice?"
He picked up the divorce agreement on the table and looked at the contents of the letter. His gaze was calm, neither happy nor angry. Jennie could not tell what he was thinking.
She took a deep breath. "Lisa, you know that your grandfather forced my mother to die, right?"
Lisa frowned and put down a divorce agreement. He looked at Jennie, "Jennie, did you choose to divorce because I didn't tell you the truth before and hid it from you for too long or it was because of a grudge from twenty-one years ago?"
Jennie looked him straight in the eye and said calmly, "Even though I don't feel very comfortable because you didn't explain the truth to me, I understand. I know that you don't want to ruin our relationship and the harmony of this marriage. Actually, you are not wrong. You were so young back then, and you didn't know what your grandfather and father were doing. You couldn't stop it. You were innocent. I knew that, so Lisa, I am very calm now. You and I will never be enemies, but this husband-wife relationship, I don't think we'll be able to continue either."
"After all, this so-called revenge never existed in my world, it only appeared a month ago. I thought I could let it go because of your kindness towards me and your innocence. I can ignore all these things, but Lisa, you and the Manoban Family are one. You are from the Manoban Family, and nothing can change that."
"I always thought Greenville Residence as our home, our world, it has nothing to do with other people. However, I can't be selfish. I can't live in this place forever. Please just sign this agreement."
Lisa's eyes were reddened, but he remained calm. He just looked at her, and after she finished speaking, he said in a deep voice, "Since you are very calm now, I will tell you directly. I will not sign this divorce agreement. Ever since I, Lisa, married you, I never planned to sign something like this!"
"You must sign it!" Jennie's heart trembled as she shouted in anger.
Lisa looked at her before he walked towards her. Just as Jennie was about to retreat, he pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly. When she was about to struggle, he gently said, "Jennie, I know that you feel sad. You cannot face grandfather and father, and I also know that you have been in a dilemma for the past month. I have been waiting...Waiting for you to decide because I have no other choice. I may be able to handle too many things, but I can't handle your mood right now."
Jennie raised her eyes and looked at the living room ceiling, trying her best not to let the tears fall. Both her hands pushed his chest, pushing him away forcefully. "Let me go."
"I know it's hard for you to accept that truth and it's harder for you to accept the Manoban Family who has never been fair to you. Jennie, please let me be selfish for once. Just think of me. Don't give up on our family, don't leave, okay?"
Jennie gritted her teeth and pushed him away with all her might. She had never used much force before. Lisa was pushed one step before he could respond in a timely manner. He then looked at her with eyes full of sadness. "Jen..."
"Lisa Manobab, please don't force me! Let me make such a choice! I am sadder than anyone else! I understand in my heart how the Family treated me. I also understand how you treat me."
"When I found out this so-called truth, I thought I was going to collapse, but I didn't, because the truth is the truth, and I had no choice but to accept it. Money laundering, how dark this secret was? To save his son, your grandfather would do anything. Perhaps there is someone more ruthless than your grandfather in the past, but he is still one of them! So what if I know the truth? I'm just a commoner, and I can't avenge my mother! Even if your grandfather were to put a blade in front of me and tell me to kill him, I wouldn't be able to do it!"
Jennie shouted with all her might, "Can you not force me? I don't want to continue to suffer like this. On the one hand, there's you, and the other hand, it's hatred. These two things have tormented me for a month. Please, Lisa... Just let me go! No matter how lonely or bitter my life will be in the future, it is still so much better than I am suffering like now!"
Lisa tried to hug her again, but Jennie forcefully pushed his hand away and glared at him. "It would be fine if it's just an old grudge between two families, but the problem was not ordinary! Your grandfather, forced my mother to die! Force her to commit suicide! The bloody scene is still swirling in my mind! Not only in my mind, but also in the small room where you keep all the information about the crime!"
She looked at him. "If you were me, what would you do? Your mother died tragically in front of you and one day, you know that she was forced to die by the family members of the person you love, what will you do? Lisa! You tell me, what would you do?!"
"Jennie, don't be agitated! We'll have a good talk. You're pregnant now, so you can't be too angry!" Seeing Jennie's bloodshot eyes, yet at the same time, she was holding back her tears with all her might, Lisa was worried.
The emotions that she had suppressed for more than a month finally burst out. This kind of denial made Lisa frown.
He walked forward and pulled her into his embrace despite her struggles. "Alright, alright, you can say whatever you want. You can scold me or beat me up however you want, but don't be too agitated. It's not good for your body! Have you forgotten what the doctor told you?"
Jennie hid her resentment deep within her heart. She thought that she would ruthlessly scold him, so she might as well tear off her pride. However, when he tightly hugged her body, she finally couldn't hold it in any longer.
Jennie had never cried like this. She had never cried so unrestrainedly, as if her whole world had collapsed overnight, as if she was searching for hope in all the despair but never found it. The despair and pain in her crying made Lisa's heart ache.
