The call from last night.
Did he think that he was about to die and took advantage of the time given by the heavens to call her? His cell phone number hadn't changed since the beginning, and since he was working in Imperial City, he would definitely change his number. Was that really his number?
How could Jennie not know that Lisa was already in such a dangerous state? Why didn't she think that this phone call could save him? Why didn't she ask him his current phone number in advance? Why was she so stupid?!
"Lisa." Jennie cried as her trembling hands hugged him tightly. "Wake up, okay? Don't sleep. You can't leave our children and me! Leo and Lily are still waiting for you. Whenever Sister Yanmei went to see our children, she would secretly teach them to call you daddy. Please wake up. I don't hate you anymore. I don't want anything more! Please wake up. I only want you and our children. I don't care whatever grudge my mother had with your family. I beg you, please wake up. Lisa!"
Her tears dripped onto Lisa's face. They were warmer than the rain, but he still didn't have much of a reaction. He only calmly laid in her embrace.
Jennie never hugged him like this. At this point, other than shouting his name and trying to wake him up, there was no other way for her to contact the outside world. Even if she had a flashlight here, it would not be able to last longer.
Jennie hugged him while pressing her face on his hair. "Lisa, wake up. Please wake up."
She thought for a moment, then pressed her lips against his and bit it. Her eyes were staring into his closed eyes, and seeing that he had not yet responded, she felt so much pain that she could not breathe.
Jennie raised her head and wiped his mouth carefully. She quickly kissed him again on his cold lips and kept saying, "I'm sorry. So sorry."
Jennie took his hand and kissed it. Lisa's hand was not as fragile as his lips, and she made up her mind to bite him until he woke up. Even as she tasted the blood in her mouth, she continued to bite.
Lisa's body, which had been tightly embraced by her, seemed to move a little. His pale face became even paler. His brow gradually furrowed.
"Lisa!" Jennie let go of his arm and kept calling out in his ear, "Lisa! Wake up! Lisa!"
It was unknown whether it was because she had bitten him so hard that he finally regained consciousness or because she called out his name in his ear, but in the end, Lisa's tightly closed eyes were moving and gradually opening small cracks. At last, he opened his eyes to a small half, and his eyebrows were tightly knitted. He was looking at her in a trance.
"Lisa, are you awake?" Jennie was so excited that she broke into laughter. She hugged him tightly and said, "You're finally awake!"
Lisa slowly opened his mouth and looked at her weakly. "Jennie?"
Jennie nodded vigorously, and her tears kept falling down his neck, "It's me, it's me. Lisa, don't fall asleep. Your body was badly injured. If you fall asleep, you really won't wake up! Don't leave me, okay."
Lisa frowned, then slowly touched his forehead. He turned his head to see the flashlight next to him, then looked at her. "What are you doing here?"
In the past year, Jennie had never cried like this. She had held back all her emotions and everything just exploded at the moment. She didn't care about anything else as she hugged him tightly and muttered non-stop, "Lisa, I miss you. I came to find you. Don't be mad at me, don't push me away."
Lisa frowned and pushed her away with his weak strength. He looked at her tearful face and asked, "I'm asking you, why are you here?"
"I ..." Jennie looked at him with her blurry and glassy eyes. Seeing his serious expression, she couldn't help but stutter for a moment before softly saying, "I came looking for you."
"Nonsense! This was the epicenter! What are you doing here?"
"I... I came to find you," Jennie's heart skipped a beat when she saw how badly he was hurt and how he didn't have any good attitude towards her.
Lisa didn't have much strength left to begin with, and now that he had woken up, his strength was slowly dissipating.
Lisa closed his eyes and took two deep breaths before he tried to get up. Jennie hurriedly helped him. "Be careful, you fell from above. You fell too deep, and both your legs and the back of your head were injured! You must see a doctor right away! I ... I'll figure out a way for us to get out."
Seeing that he had woken up, Jennie did not dare to continue wasting the flashlight. She turned around and picked up the flashlight, turning it into the weakest light. She used a small amount of light to provide some light to where the two of them currently stood.
"Aren't you afraid of the danger? If something did happen to you, what would happen to the children? Would you let them lose their mother from an early age? Jennie, I can understand that you were forced by circumstances and therefore, you asked for a divorce. I have followed your wishes, but what are you doing now? What are you doing here after you found out that the earthquake in Imperial City was so severe that there is a possibility there will be a mudslide soon? Are you tired of living? You don't care about the children anymore? What the hell are you thinking?!"
After Lisa finished speaking, he suddenly coughed and then looked at Jennie sternly. It was obvious that he was furious.
Jennie was so angry that she couldn't retort. She just knelt next to him. Seeing that Lisa was serious and didn't even want her to touch him, she bit her lower lip and slowly lowered her eyes. "Nothing will happen to us. Leo and Lily will never lose their parents."
"You! Cough, cough." Lisa was about to say something when he suddenly coughed violently twice. Jennie quickly tried to help him, but he shook off her hand and turned away to cough heavily.
Jennie saw that he actually coughed up blood and quickly exclaimed, "Did you hurt your internal organs?!"
Lisa closed his eyes and rested there, not saying a word for a long time.
Jennie didn't know what he was thinking at the moment and she could only look at him. She couldn't help but hug him despite his rejection. "Lisa, if you really understand me, you will know that I was making a ruckus about getting a divorce because I couldn't face it. I didn't want to torture myself, and I didn't want to torture you anymore. I thought maybe it would be better if we separated. I've been numb for the past year. I've been living a life without you, filling up my life with our children so that I wouldn't crazily miss you when I woke up in the middle of the night."
"I'm sorry, I won't push you away anymore. If I knew that you would get hurt like this one day and if I knew that one day you would almost lose your life, I wouldn't push you away no matter how sad I am. I won't let you go anymore."
"I'm sorry, Lisa. Please don't push me away. Don't leave, okay. We'll definitely survive! Leo and Lily are waiting for us to come back. They're waiting to see their father. You must be fine, okay? There are too many things in this world that we fear. As I rushed here from H City, I had no idea that you were injured like this. I just found out that there was an earthquake here, and I just wanted to be by your side at the moment, even if you were fine. I just want to follow the reporter and look at you from a distance. I don't want to leave the children. When I arrived here, I found out that you've been missing all night, that's why ... I'm looking for you anxiously. If I hadn't fallen, I wouldn't have been able to find you! Don't be mad, I beg you, don't be like this. Let's leave this place alive and come back together, okay."
