"Nick," Lani called from the hallway, finding him moments later in her living room. "What's up?" he asked.
"Clay, um," she hesitated, searching for the right words, even though she had a feeling he already knew. "He told me he likes me—like, genuinely—but I always thought our flirting was a joke. I think I might have upset him, and now I don't know what to do because I think I like him, but at the same time, I'm not sure." She rambled, her voice faster than usual.
Sapnap looked shocked, quickly grasping the situation despite her voice racing like a bullet train. "Okay, calm down; it's fine," he reassured her. "Do you want me to talk to him about it?" Lani bit her lip, pondering his suggestion. "No! Well—maybe? I don't know; I hate this," she sighed, frustration evident in her voice.
"Explain what happened. Calmly," he said, sitting up straight. "Okay, um, we were texting, and I made a joke like, 'Do you have a crush on me?' He replied with a yeah and then said he actually did. I think I was just shocked and panicked a bit, and I didn't know how to respond. I feel so bad." She sighed, burying her head in her hands.
"Well, do you like him?" The man's eyes were focused solely on her, which made her a little anxious. "I'm not sure. I want to say I do, but at the same time, I don't think I like him the way he likes me."
"Why aren't you sure?" Sapnap asked. Lani shrugged. "I haven't— I don't think— I don't know. He's been nothing but amazing since the day I met him, but I just don't like him the way he likes me. It's frustrating because I really, really like him, but at the same time, I don't."
Sapnap sighed. "You know he's liked you for a while." Lani furrowed her brows. "What?" He nodded in confirmation. "He told George and me. He was actually jealous of that August guy; you're all he talks about." Lani's expression softened, but it faltered as she recalled her earlier actions.
"And I basically told him I didn't like him back," she sighed. Sapnap launched into a lecture about why she needed to sort this out. "He's head over heels for you—absolutely smitten. He's even written stuff about you!"
"He has?" Keilani was baffled. How could Clay be in love with her without ever touching her skin? Love was truly a strange thing.
"He texts me every day about you, and honestly, it's getting annoying, even though I'm happy for him. You need to get your shit together and tell him you like him back before he feels embarrassed and ghosts you." Sapnap crossed his arms, exuding the authority of a concerned father. "He's really into you."
