Of course, Lani wasn't stupid—nor was she chronically offline. She saw the way Twitter dragged her name through the mud now that Dream was with Thea.

And, frankly, she didn't understand why.

She had backed off. She didn't mention Dream anywhere. She stayed in her own lane. Yet, somehow, people still felt the need to compare her to Thea, to pit them against each other, even when she wasn't even part of the conversation.

If she was being honest, it hurt.

She had never even dated Dream, yet they acted like she had done something abhorrent—like her existence alone was offensive.

And she couldn't help but wonder, if Dream had pursued her instead, how much worse would it have been?

She avoids it as much as she could. She told herself it didn't matter. These people didn't know her, didn't know Dream, didn't know anything beyond the surface-level snippets they chose to obsess over.

But it still stung.

She wasn't some villain in Dream's story, yet they painted her as one anyway. They acted like she had lost, like she had been in some silent competition she never even signed up for. And the worst part? She couldn't even defend herself without making things worse.

So she ignored it. She scrolled past the comments, muted certain words, and pretended it didn't exist.

But late at night, when everything was quiet and there was nothing left to distract her, she thought about it.

She thought about Dream. About Thea. About how, in the grand scheme of things, none of it should matter, but somehow, it still did.

Lani thought it was stupid—how people threw words at her like daggers over a boy she had once liked.

It was immature. Ridiculous. A pointless, never-ending, one-sided argument.

She hadn't done anything. She hadn't fought for him, hadn't begged him to choose her, hadn't even so much as mentioned his name since he got with Thea.

Fuck her life. Truly.
