Lani avoided Twitter as much as she could, telling herself it would all blow over eventually.
In the meantime, she kept herself busy—throwing herself into personal tasks, distracting herself with anything that would take up space in her mind. She was productive, it made her feel better.
More importantly, it kept her from thinking too much about him.
She hasn't written any new songs in a while. Too busy moping and longing, completely her fault.
So for the first time in a while, she posts something again.

The clip of her singing had become a hit tweet, spreading across platform like a wildfire. The reaction was mixed, but she was sure everyone knew which side the majority leaned toward.
It didn't take long for Dream to find out.
Sapnap and George had seen it first. They never showed it to him, never brought it up—but eventually, it found its way to him anyway during his lurking sessions.
The first time he heard it, something unfamiliar settled in his chest. Maybe it was the way Lani sang. So raw, so unlike her usual self. Or maybe it was because the song itself was devastatingly sad, and he was almost certain it was about him.
So he listened. And then he listened again.
He analyzed every lyric, piecing them together like a puzzle he had been too blind to see before. And suddenly, everything clicked.
She had been hurting.
And he hadn't noticed, because he was too busy basking in the attention of another girl.
He felt stupid—he knew Lani had liked him, yet he had gone for someone else. He had moved on, pursued Thea, and never stopped to think about how it might have felt for Lani.
Dream was in love with Thea—irrevocably so—but that didn't mean he didn't still care about Lani. Not as an old crush, but as a friend. As someone who had once meant so much to him.
And now, realizing how much he had hurt her, he hated himself for it.
He put us two and two together, he thought back to the time she had stopped texting him—the same time he and Thea had gotten together. The distance hadn't been a coincidence.
God, help him. He's a loser.
And the worst part? Lani had no idea he even knew.
He wanted to reach out—to apologize, to offer closure, to do something—but what would be the point?
It was too late.
What was there to say that would make a difference now? That he was sorry? That he hadn't meant to hurt her? That he'd been so caught up in his own happiness that he hadn't even realized what it had cost someone else? All's been said and done, he couldn't do anything.
To add onto that, he knew Lani would probably assume he just saw her post, assume he thought 'oh wow, I'm a dick', and apologize so he wouldn't have to live with the guilt.
Frankly, it was mostly true.
He doesn't apologize, because again, what difference could it make?
