Dream hated this day. Lani was leaving, and no matter how much he tried to convince her to stay the night before, she had fallen asleep halfway through his rambling.
At the airport, time felt like it was slipping through Dream's fingers too fast. He kept glancing at Lani, memorizing every little detail. The way her eyes crinkled when she smiled, the way she held onto his pinky like she wasn't quite ready to let go either.
George and Sapnap gave their own goodbyes, Nick pulling her into a tight hug while George muttered something sarcastic but affectionate. Then, it was just Dream and Lani.
His throat felt tight. "You could just stay, y'know," he murmured, attempting one last time.
Lani chuckled softly, shaking her head. "I would if I could."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair before pulling her into him, wrapping his arms tightly around her. "I'm gonna miss you," he admitted, his voice quiet against her hair.
She squeezed him back. "I know," she starts. "I'll miss you too."
Dream didn't want to let go. But eventually, he had to.
As she walked toward her gate, she turned back one last time, giving him a small wave. He forced a smile, waving back, even as his chest ached.
He wished he could keep her here, just a little longer. By a little longer he meant forever, and whatever comes after forever too.
Forever doesn't sound too bad, he thought again. And maybe, just maybe, one day, he'd have it with her.
