Lani opened the door, and her two cats immediately rushed over, their purring filling the room as they rubbed their heads affectionately against her ankles.
Lani nearly cooed at the sight, crouching down to pick them both up. "Hi," she murmured with a smile, planting soft kisses on their heads. Miso, however, began wiggling in her arms, so she set her down, letting the smaller cat dart off while Kimchi remained snuggled against her.
Dream stepped forward first, hesitating slightly as he looked to her for permission to pet Kimchi. When she gave approval, he gently scratched the base of the cat's tail, earning a trill in return. "He likes you," Lani said warmly.
A moment later, Sapnap and George joined in, each taking turns giving Kimchi attention while Miso stayed hidden, peeking cautiously from behind the couch.
"Miso doesn't like strangers," Lani explained, glancing at the skittish cat. "But Kimchi? Someone could bribe him with a single treat, and he'd follow them anywhere. I'm scared one day he'll wander off, and I'll find out he's somehow ended up in Europe or something."
"Patches and Miso would love each other," Dream chuckled, his hand moving gently over to scratch Kimchi under his chin. "Though I bet they'd be scared of each other at first. Or maybe Patches would just hiss at her all the time until she starts liking her."
"Oh! You know, when I first adopted them, Miso saw her reflection in the mirror for the first time and absolutely freaked out," Lani said with a laugh. "But now? I don't think she's scared of much anymore."
Dream smiled, still scratching Kimchi. "Character development," he joked.
"Can you two stop flirting for once and help me?" Sapnap interrupted, shifting the weight of the bags in his hands with a groan. His arms were starting to ache from carrying both his and Dream's luggage. (He asked George, but he had already claimed his suitcase and carry-on were a 'heavy burden.')
Dream muttered an apology, quiet enough that only Sapnap could hear. Lani led them to a spare room. It wasn't large, but it wasn't cramped either.
The room lacked much furniture, only two mattresses on the floor surrounded by a few scattered items that belonged to Lani. It had a storage-room vibe, with random things stacked up here and there.
"I'm sorry, I didn't have time to clean up. If you guys don't fit, one of you could take the couch, or I can make like, a makeshift sleeping bag in my room." She said, offering a sheepish smile.
The three of them didn't seem bothered at all, assuring her they weren't picky and that the space was more than enough. Lani brought out extra pillows and blankets, her eyes scanning the room. She hadn't had guests over since she moved, so it felt a bit odd but still nice to offer her space.
"Um... there's food in the fridge, and I think there's some cup noodles in the drawer. Feel free to eat anything. Make yourselves at home," Lani said with a small, almost awkward smile. In California, she didn't have many visitors—only her closest friends or family—so having actual guests made her feel a bit out of her element.
She realized she was probably overthinking it. After all, these were her friends—three guys who played Minecraft for a living, not some A-list celebrities.
She left them be to unpack, heading to her own room.

Dream, George, and Sapnap had finished settling into the room. It didn't take long for them to decide on sleeping arrangements—Dream and George would share one mattress, while Sapnap claimed the other. (Nobody volunteered to sleep next to him because of his obnoxiously loud snoring.)
"Maybe Dream could sleep in Lani's room instead. The bed's too small for the two of you, and I don't think Lani would mind," Sapnap suggested, his tone laced with teasing but managing to sound entirely serious.
"Yeah, they've done it before anyway. In the hotel room," George chimed in, shooting Dream a knowing look.
"That's dumb. You guys are dumb." Dream scoffed, shaking his head as he rummaged through his luggage. "I was cold, she offered the bed. What was I supposed to do?"
"You're the idiot for not even trying to make the first move," George shot back, a smug look on his face.
"Are you guys hungry?" Lani peeped into their room. George was fast asleep, while Sapnap and Dream were both on their phones.
"Kinda," Dream replied, setting his phone down.
"Nick?" She glanced over at Sapnap, receiving a little hummed 'yeah' in response.
"Me too. Do you guys wanna go out?" she asked, glancing between the two.
Without saying a word, the two men got up, grabbing their wallets and already preparing to leave the room.
"What about George?" Lani asked, glancing at the sleeping figure cocooned under the dark sheets.
"He'll probably be out for another hour or so. I'll grab him something to eat," Dream said casually.
"Yeah, he's kinda gay for George," Sapnap quipped with a smirk, earning a chuckle from Lani.
The three walked to the nearest fast-food spot near Lani's apartment, the late afternoon sun of the bustling city wrapping around them. Casual conversations filled the air until they finally arrived at the brightly lit restaurant.
They all placed their orders (Dream making sure to order for George as well.) Lani and Dream settled into a gray booth, chatting quietly while Nick stood by the counter, waiting for their food.
"Here's your pussy wings, brother." Nick slid the small serving tray filled with wings over to Dream.
"Plain. They're just plain wings." Dream countered, taking the serving tray.
"Pussy wings." Nick repeats, emphasizing the word. "He doesn't like anything on them. He's so white that even ketchups too spicy for him." He glances at Lani, as if to explain.
It makes Lani crack a smile, looking at Clay as if to confirm it.
"I have refined taste." He says, taking a bite out of his wings.
Sapnap snickered, sitting down next to Dream. "Refined taste, my balls. He'd be perfectly content eating plain, soggy pasta for the rest of his life."
Lani glanced down at their food, noting how different it was. Clay's wings were plain, while Nick's looked like it could burn a hole through his stomach. Hers was right in the middle, not too spicy but not plain either.
